Manne wrote: DURANT, OK -- In just a couple days hundreds of people will head to the Choctaw Casino in Durant for the second annual World Series of Poker Circuit event.

From Thursday the 12th through the 23rd of January players will have the chance to win big bucks and play for the championship title at this year's circuit tour. There are a total of 52 events in the coming weeks, and players are already putting on their poker faces. For some poker's not just a game, it's a way of life. Garrett says he started playing poker semi-professionally back in 2009.

"There's this saying of poker 'it takes a minute to learn, but a lifetime to master', and that's very true," Garrett said. "The games constantly evolving, players are changing, players are becoming better, and especially with the internet."

He has played in high stakes tournaments across the U.S., but this is his first time at the World Series of Poker event.

Choctaw Casino Poker Room Manager Ken Lambert says in less than 48 hours they will have a full house. About a thousand people like Garrett are expected to fill the room for the tournament, all of them hoping for an ace in the hole.

"It gets real competitive around here. As the field narrows down, and the players become more serious," Lambert said.

Lambert says the tournament is not just for experienced players that anyone can join in, and they do. In the past, the tournament has drawn up to 15,000 visitors, which makes the event a 'win-win' for the players and Durant's economy.

Lambert says he game does require skill, but sometimes even amateurs get lucky.

"Make sure you play good cards, but more than anything be patient you don't have to get your money in there all at once," Lambert said.

"Tight is right. Play tight. And you want to play aggressive you want to put pressure on your opponents and make them make tough decisions," Garrett said.

Both Lambert and Garrett agree it is not just about playing your cards right that having a stern poker face is key.

"If you're smiling too much, laughing too much or too many expressions you've lost your poker face," Lambert said.

Lambert says buy-ins will be priced between $300 and $1,600 dollars.
Anyone can sign up to play starting tomorrow.

In Australia, Crown Casino of Melbourne prepares to host the poker event of the year in the country, the Aussie Millions edition 2013. Indeed, it is the second largest poker tournament in the world and it still looks like the biggest poker tournament ever held in the southern hemisphere. The kickoff will take place in a week. For the history, the Aussie Millions is held at the beginning of each year and includes about 26 tournaments. Initially, the tournament was known as "The crown Australian Poker championships." It was only since 2003 that the tournament was finally called Aussie Millions. This first edition was marked by the rising of the main event buy-in which was set at $ 10,000 and the proposal of a guaranteed prize pool of $ 1 million. And the tournament earned immediately the estimated success. International stars joined Crown Melbourne at each new edition. Last year, for example, Phil Ivey, Scotty Nguyen, Annette Obrestad, Daniel Negreanu and Tom Dwan have been part of the field.

For this edition 2013, the $ 10,600 buy-in main event of the poker tournament will begin on January 27, 2013 and it will offer a guaranteed prize pool of $ 20 million. The champion is sure to start with at least $ 2 million in his pocket. And regarding side event tournaments, the Aussie Millions will be once again marked by the holding of the world's most expensive tournament for a buy-in of $ 250,000, except of course other more recent tournaments like the Big One for One Drop. This competition will still be part of the program this year, as the $ 100,000 Challenge.

69 players have registered so far for the Guangdong Asia Millions, according to official reports, as day 1 of the super highroller event gets underway.

Registration is still open for the first four levels, so “another couple of millionaire strays may wander past,” as the PokerStars blog post puts it.

A live stream is available from PokerStars.TV. Stars Pro Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier is playing at the feature table.

The exclusive invite-only tournament in Macau, organized in conjunction with the Guangdong junket operator, is a HKD $1m buyin event (USD $130k) and two rebuys of HKD $1m are permitted at any time in the first four levels.

69 entrants is a bit below recent expectations. But the prize pool currently stands at just under $9m, and if enough players take advantage of the rebuys then it will still likely exceed the originally expected $10m prize pool and make it one of the largest tournaments ever outside of the WSOP main event.

The much anticipated WPT Alpha8 Series is set to get underway starting August 26th at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open in Florida with the $100,000 buy-in tournament sure to draw a great deal of television interest when it eventually airs on the FOX Sports 1 channel in March 2014. However, the inaugural WPT Alpha8 series taking place in North America is just one stop on a tour that will visit various venues across the world, including Europe, Asia, and South Africa.

As WPT President Adam Pliska explains about its exciting new tournament series: “Showcasing the world’s poker elite and featuring multimillion dollar prize pools, super high-roller represents the highest televised treatment of super high-roller tournament poker to date. Playing out over a global stage, this series will give audiences insight into the intensity and skill demanded at the sport’s highest levels.”

In preperation for next month’s start, the World Poker Tour has now announced Ali Nejad and Olivier Busquet will be the two-man commentary team joining Alpha8 broadcasts anchor Lynn Gilmartin at the debut event. Oliver “Ali” Nejad is a veteran poker television presenter, best known as the announcer on NBC’s Poker After Dark, while Olivier Busquet is a talented poker pro with over $4 million in online and live tournament earnings, including victory at the 2009 WPT Borgata Poker Open $3,300 event for $925,514.

Together, the popular poker personalities are sure to bring a wealth of experience to the commentary team, while providing some insightful, well-rounded analysis on the high-roller event. However, the game is not the only aspect of the broadcast, and viewers can also expect to get a glimpse into the lives of the high stakes players competing in the WPT Alpha8 Series.

Expressing his excitement at the upcoming Alpha8 broadcasts, vice president of FOX Sports Network, David Sussin, commented: “WPT Alpha8 will be a key part of our primetime line up and a tremendous complement to our other sports programming. With this new series, WPT has significantly raised the stakes of televised poker. By increasing the risk and raising the pressure, WPT Alpha8 delivers more drama and bigger personalities, and we’re confident the show will quickly become a habit for our viewers.”

Australia’s Crown Melbourne Casino unveiled Tuesday the details for one of the most anticipated series of the year: the 2014 Aussie Millions Poker Championship.

The down-under poker festival will feature 20 total tournaments, 19 “Championship Ring” side events plus its prestigious Main Event, starting on January 23 and wrapping up on February 10.

Event buy-ins range from AUD $1100 (~USD $990) to the AUD $10600 ($~9500 USD) Main Event, plus three different 2-day highroller events in the amounts of $25k, $100k, and the last tournament on the schedule, the super high roller $250,000 Challenge.

This year, every event will afford the player one re-entry, save the Main Event in which there is none and the $250k which is unlimited through the first 4 levels. Satellites for the Main Event will be running at the Crown Melbourne both during and before the series starts as Aussie Millions officials hope to top the over AUD $1.6M first place Main Event prize won last year by Mervin Chan.

The early 2014 poker calendar once again is packed with premiere events: These dates are confirmed a day after PokerStars began running online satellites for it’s annual early January event, the PCA.

In two days of high roller action it was Steven Silverman who captured the first ever World Poker Tour Alpha8 100k buy-in title as well as the first place haul of $891,660. Silverman had plenty of competition at the Final Table as he needed to fade the eliminations of such personalities as Bill Perkins, Jason Mercier, Joesph Cheong, Issac Haxton and Daniel Alaei before any money was awarded.

Matt Glantz, who, according to the World Poker Tour’s live updates, began the day with the chip lead, would fall in 4th place and take home just under $250k for his efforts. Poker professional Jeff Gross was next to exit with a payday of $364,770, leaving Silverman heads up with the white hot JC Tran.

Tran, as you will recall, is all set to return to the WSOP Final Table this November with the chip lead—but on this day he would have to settle for $526,890 second place prize, falling to Silverman in just a few hands of heads-up play.

The WPT Alpha 8 televised final table, from the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open, complete with all the action and eliminations, is set to air on the new Fox Sports 1 Network in March of 2014.

The first televised event of Season XII of the World Poker Tour kicks off today from the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, CA.

The tournament is expected to bring out some of the biggest names in the game as the $3500+$200 buy-in event has three Day 1 flights as well the ability to re-enter in a subsequent starting day should one get knocked out on Day 1A or 1B.

Last year’s Main Event saw San Diego’s Josh Hale conquer a field of 622 runners and best a final table that included Max Steinberg, Greg Mueller and Jeff Madsen for a first place prize of half a million dollars.

The Legends of Poker starts at 1PM PST with live updates, and continues all the way through the final table on September 4.

Alex “IReadYrSoul” Millar had by far the best week at the high-stakes online poker tables, winning a whopping $1.2 million over just 3,346 hands, according to tracking data from HighstakesDB.

The young British poker pro is now up just under $570,000 on the year on Full Tilt Poker. The past seven days were crucial for him. At one point in July he was down more than $1.6 million on the year on the software. Millar plays under the screen name “Kanu7” on PokerStars, and he is up around $330,000 on the year there. Some of his profits this past week on Full Tilt came at heads-up $400-$800 no-limit hold’em. He was battling with the likes of nosebleed regular Viktor “Isildur1” Blom.

The largest pot of the match began with Millar raising to $2,700. Blom called. The flop fell 10Club Suit 7Spade Suit 5Diamond Suit. Blom checked, Millar bet $2,850, Blom check-raised to $12,000, and Millar called.

The turn brought the 2Heart Suit, and Blom fired $24,800. Millar made the call.

The river brought the ADiamond Suit, and Blom shoved for $152,793, which had Millar barely covered.

Millar made the call with the 7Diamond Suit 2Diamond Suit, and he was good against the 8Diamond Suit 6Heart Suit of Blom.

Despite losing that hand, Blom managed to win just under $700,000 for the week.

That monster wasn’t actually the largest hand of the week.

Ben “Sauce1234” Sulsky and Isaac “luvtheWNBA” Haxton played a really interesting $394,057 pot at $400-$800 no-limit hold’em six-handed.

The action started with Sulsky ($196,200) raising to $2,400 from the cutoff with the KHeart Suit 8Heart Suit. Haxton ($306,500) called from the button, and everyone else at the table folded.

The flop fell 8Spade Suit 6Heart Suit 4Heart Suit, giving Sulsky top pair and a flush draw.

However, he elected to check his monster to Haxton. Haxton fired $4,000, and Sulsky called.

The turn brought the ADiamond Suit, and Sulsky checked once again. Haxton bet 22,000.

Sulsky called, and the river was the 3Heart Suit, giving Sulsky his second-nut flush. He sneakily checked for a third time to his aggressive opponent, and Haxton bet $47,200. Sulsky check-shoved for $167,000 total, and Haxton called and mucked when he saw the slow-played flush.

These games have been running around unknown Macau account “MalACEsia” who dropped more than $900,000 over the past week. That brings his/her losses on the year to $3.77 million.

Winners In 2013

cottonseed1: $3.31 million
Ben “Bttech86” Tollerene: $2.89 million
Alexander “PostflopAction” Kostritsyn: $2.73 million
Patrik “FiddaGrind” Antonius: $2.68 million
Viktor “Isildur1” Blom: $2.57 million

Losers In 2013

MalACEsia: -$3.77 million
Gus Hansen: -$3.71 million
samrostan: -$3.89 million
Phil “Polarizing” Ivey: -$2.98 million

Ben “Sauce123” Sulsky and Douglas “WCGRider” Polk have put the online poker world on notice that, starting next week, they plan on conducting a high-stakes, heads-up challenge with a considerable amount of money on the line. If it weren’t enough to agree to 15,000 hands at $100/$200, the pair have agreed to, as extra incentive, a side bet of $100,000 for whoever is ahead at the end of the challenge.

Understanding that previous high-profile challenges, specifically the Durrrr Challenge, have left railbirds and side bettors disappointed, the pair are noting that they anticipate this challenge to last about a month and to be complete by mid-October. In order to ensure that there’s no dodging or delays, the pair may even “sign some kind of contract,” according to Polk, who recently spoke with QuadJacks about the upcoming challenge.

Douglas Polk’s rise to the ranks of high-stakes is what every grinder dreams about. He legendarily started from the very bottom, playing $0.01/$0.02 back in 2007, and built both his skills and his bankroll through hard work and dedication to the game. Today, he’s one of the most feared online heads-up players on the scene.

Ben “Sause123” Sulsky was the overall biggest winner in online poker in 2012 with nearly $4M in profit. A specialist in heads-up and short handed NL and PLO, Sulsky recently made a rare live appearance this summer in Las Vegas and took 4th place in the $10k WSOP Heads-up Championship, and, according to data on HighStakesDB, he’s up nearly $450k playing NLHE in the past 30 days alone.

The challenge, which looks to take place on Full Tilt, is likely to be fast-paced as Polk mentions that both he and Sulsky are often ready to play every day and that Polk plans on tweeting right before the start of any session.

British poker legend Chris Moorman has made history once more by winning his 15th Triple Crown, the most ever won by any online player. With his latest achievement, the 28 year-old has now put further distance between himself and his nearest rivals, Hungary’s Belabacsi (11), Portugal’s Naza114 (9) and Denmark’s Mickey “mementmori” Petersen (9).

As well as bagging a remarkable 15th Triple Crowns, Chris ‘Moorman1′ Moorman also has the distinction of having earned more money from online tournaments than any other player, now totalling a massive $9,815,796. Furthermore, the Brighton, East Sussex based player boasts a further $2,962,569 from showcasing his poker skills at live tournaments around the globe.

In order to win an online Triple Crown a player must first win three tournaments with prize pools in excess of $10,000 across three different sites within a seven-day period.

This time around, on 6th September Chris Moorman took down PokerStars’ $51 NL Hyper-Turbo $12K Gtd for $3,357, followed by PaddyPower’s $30 re-buy tournament for $3,775, before completing his trio of victories by shipping bwin’s $150 tournament for $4,166.

After winning his historical record, the understated Moorman simply tweeted; “Just won my 15th triple crown 😁 ” and posted a photo of his last tournament’s finishing position.

At the end of last year, Chris Moorman was delighted to pick-up a 12th Triple Crown after what he described as a semi-slump online during the year. Commenting at the time on how to go about winning the prestigious accolade, Moorman, explained:

“A lot of people win tournaments on PokerStars and Full Tilt and then try to win one on one of the Euro sites. I think that’s the wrong approach. Full Tilt, with its smaller field sizes, is probably the easiest to win a tournament on now, so it’s actually much better to win a Euro tournament first rather than last. I try to play most of the sites in every session I have to give myself the best shot at winning one.”

The $5,000 buy-in 2013 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) main event drew a field of 2,133 entrants, creating a total prize pool of $10,665,000. The field size was 308 players larger than the year prior.

After two days of play, it all came down to a final table dominated by Germans. In fact, the top three players all hailed from Germany and decided on a deal that would make each of them millionaires.

A total of 243 players were paid a minimum of $12,798. Notables such as Andrey “Kroko-dill” Zaichenko (11th), Jon “PearlJammer” Turner (15th), Chris “SLOPPYKLOD” Klodnicki (21st) and Jason “TheMasterJ33” Dewitt (27th) all made deep runs at the final table before falling just short.

Other notables at the final table included Stefan “Vampyboy” Kolossow (ninth), Leon “flippetyflop” Louis (eighth), Dylan “PokerI)eviL” Hortin (seventh), Shane “shaniac” Schleger (sixth) and Giuseppe “1M.BanKroLL” Polichetti (fourth).

After Polichetti’s elimination in fourth place, the remaining three players, SwissCantMis, PlayinWasted and Daniel “Allanon85” Drescher all decided on a deal that would award each of them at least seven figures, with $160,000 left over to play for. After more than an hour of action, it was PlayinWasted who came out on top when his ASpade SuitKSpade Suit bested Drescher’s KClub SuitQSpade Suit all in preflop.

Here is a look at the final table results.
