PokerStars Holding Guinness World Record Attempt

Once again, PokerStars, the world’s largest online poker site, is attempting to rewrite the Guinness Book of World Records. Last December, the site, which saw sponsored pro Joe jcada99 Cada take down the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, held a record-breaker that generated a monstrous field of 35,000 players. In 2008, the Christmastime tournament sported an $11 buy-in with $500,000 in guaranteed prize money. This year’s installment seeks to break the standing record of 65,000 players in a single online poker tournament, set in July by PokerStars.

The Guinness Book of World Records attempt will take place on Sunday, December 27th at 14:45 ET. The buy-in is a paltry $1, and $300,000 will be up for grabs. Registration is already open on Poker Stars.

[FONT="Franklin Gothic Medium"]Yes, I saw this, and the last time I looked the registered field so far was around 106,000 which made the cashing odds to still be between 1-in-3 and 1-in-4. Not bad really compared to the normal payout schedules. . .

They were still running satellites like mad as well, for the true cheapskates and/or those who've busted their bankrolls: $0.10 or 2 FPP or 10 FPP. . .

I'll pass as I think I can put that time to better use, but g'luck to those who go for the Guinness, though I'd probably prefer they just bought me a pint of the stuff instead. . .[/FONT]

Sunday was an historic day for online poker, as PokerStars broke its own record for the largest online tournament of all time. The previous record of 35,000 players was broken twice on July 19, 2009. Full Tilt Poker hosted a tournament that boasted a 50,000 player field, only to see PokerStars top it later that day with their own 65,000 tourney.
