In the event, the first batch of Africa Warrior titles will be at stake next week Friday, March 28 when Dade Promotions stage the mega fight night at the Arts Centre in Accra code-named ‘Future Ghana Champs.’

A press conference to formally introduce Africa Warriors as the new professional boxing sanctioning body will be held right after the weigh-ins for the ‘Future Ghana Champs’ at the Arts Center Accra on the Thursday 27Th March 2014 at 10:00AM.

Frank Cappuccino, who refereed numerous world title fights and was also the third man in the ring for one of boxing's most savage slugfests, the first bout between Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward, died on Monday in Yardley, Pennsylvania, of complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was 86.

"When he was in his prime, there is no doubt he was one of the top five referees in the world," said Greg Sirb, the executive director of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission, who knew Cappuccino well and assigned him to the fights he worked in the state since 1989.

Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) has named a national squad of 51 boxers to prepare for international engagements.

The squad was named by the UBF technical committee after a series of national trails that culminated last Monday.

The team that involves nine women boxers comprises 22 boxers in the elite category, 10 in the youth category and a similar number in youth bracket.

The squad was part of a team of over 80 boxers that underwent a non-residential training camp for the last two months at Lugogo.

UBF secretary Simon Barigo said the elite boxers are for the forthcoming All Africa Games and the Olympic qualifiers. The senior squad is also ear-marked for the Africa Boxing Confederation (ABC) championship in Morrocco on July 30 to August 8.

“We summoned a big pool to give a wider opportunity of selecting the best boxers. This is a very promising squad,” Barigo said.

At the US District Court in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Bob Arum and his Top Rank boxing promotion filed a 50-page lawsuit against powerful boxing "adviser" Al Haymon and his partners, Waddell & Reed, a Missouri based investment firm. The suit seeks more than $100 million in damages and an injunction against Haymon and his "predatory practices."

Two months ago Arum and Haymon worked together on the Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao match, the highest grossing event in boxing history.

Al Haymon has been a controversial and enigmatic figure in boxing for some time, and the complaint did nothing to discourage that view. As @BoxingInsider noted on Twitter, "The opening is gold. This should be a movie."

Miami has become something of a boxing Mecca of late and the reasons come down to two men - legendary boxing promoter Tony Holden and former head of the Oklahoma Boxing Commission and current General Manager of Buffalo Run Casino Resort Steve Bashore.

Holden, originally from Miami, has managed such famous boxers as Tommy Morrison, Alan Green, Johnny Tapia and Joe Mesi. He is now promoting the Four State Franchise, which include Morrison’s sons Trey Lippe-Morrison and Kenzie Morrison as well as Dillon and Jesse Cook and Jarrett Rouse, The Miami News-Record (Miami becomes boxing Mecca - Miami News Record: Home ) reported.

Holden said one of the reasons he’s brought boxing back to Miami is simply that - it’s his hometown - but, moreover, the fan base is phenomenal.

“What keeps boxing in Miami is the amazing fans and turnout, they’re sincere fight fans,” Holden said.

But it all started for Miami on April 2, 2002, when he promoted a card which was televised by ESPN2 from downtown Miami with the Coleman Theatre serving as the backdrop.

Since then, Holden has brought multiple shows to Miami, including Showtime and ESPN.

“I’ve worked with those networks for 25 years,” he said.

Bashore said he got to know Holden when Bashore was head of the Oklahoma Boxing Commission.

“Tony promoted most of the fights in the state,” Bashore said. “He was just bringing these people from all over the country.”

Anthony Mundine has penned an unusual open letter to Floyd Mayweather, begging the boxing great to be his next opponent.

The Australian fighter pleaded to be considered for his final bout on September 12 in the emoji-filled piece, published on boxa-com.au on Monday.

He introduced himself as "the uncrowned best athlete of all time" before listing his achievements and making his case to Mayweather.

"I think you the best of our era & everybody wanna fight you - but I'm the wonder from down under & the only one that can solve the mayvinchi code!" Mundine wrote.

"So what Im trying to get at is I'm hoping to land the fight with you in Sept!

"You don't ask ... you don't get! Consider a colourful character who's your mandatory for September. It wont be boring before, during or after the fight!"

He went onto say he has "attributes" other potential opponents Karim Mayfield and Andre Berto do not, and would make for a "good boxing spectacle both in and outta the ring."

He also appeared to confuse the undefeated Mayweather with his father, Floyd Mayweather, Sr., saying, "I got 6 losses (same as you) from 53 fights."

Carson Jones claims his daughter punches harder than Brian Rose and warned the Blackpool fighter to prepare for life outside the ring ahead of their rematch at the weekend.

Rose was stopped inside a round in front of his hometown Blackpool fans on Valentine’s Day earlier this year by the American light-middleweight.

The 30-year-old had staggered the Oklahoma fighter earlier in the round but Jones responded by landing two quick right hands which prompted the referee to step in.

AMIR KHAN has spoken to Kell Brook’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, about a possible fight with the unbeaten IBF welterweight champion at Wembley Stadium next year.

Clamour for a fight between the two has built over the last few years but Khan has ruled out facing Brook this year.

However, Khan revealed to The National that he has met with Hearn and they discussed, at length, organising the fight for 2016.

“I have made it clear to Eddie that I want this fight to be a big fight worldwide, not just in the UK,” he said.

“I told him Kell needs to fight a couple of big names and beat them, obviously. That will make our fight even bigger.

“The fight will be a Khan Promotions and Matchroom Promotions event in the UK, at Wembley Stadium.”

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe has commented via Twitter on the response to the Mayweather-Berto announcement:

Some media are going to complain no matter who he fights, always an excuse. He just beat whom they picked as “fighter of decade.” Can’t please everyone it’s impossible, but one thing for sure, it’s going to be a very exciting fight right along with the great undercard! Great fighters make things look easy, that’s what makes them great. Nothing easy about Canelo, Cotto, Pacquiao just to name a few. One punch changes the whole dynamics of everything. Neither guy will take a step back in this fight. Both guys will be looking for a KO!! Most of those who complain are the same ones who also said Cotto was washed up before Floyd fought him.

Professional boxer Manny Pacquiao says he's aiming for a rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr. after his May defeat in the highly publicized fight.

When asked about his future in boxing after having surgery to repair an injury to his right shoulder that he sustained before the fight against Mayweather, Pacquiao said that while he's seeking a rematch next year with the undefeated world champion, for now he's focused on serving his country in the Philippine House of Representatives.

"I'd like to concentrate my efforts on working as a politician this year, and want to fight Mayweather in a rematch," Pacquiao told Fightnews-com. "I'll be ready for that mentally and physically next year. I'll show a better performance against him than in the first encounter."

Pacquiao is serving his second term in the Philippine Congress representing the southern province of Sarangani.

During an interview with The Christian Post back in April, Pacquiao said he was motivated to run for elected office because he wants to "provide opportunities for my fellow countrymen that will improve their situations. As a politician, I want to help create jobs so that I can bring them out of their poverty. I want to give them hope. Boxing has been my passion, but public service is my calling."

Last year, however, Filipino media outlets such as ABS-CBN News Online revealed that Pacquiao was among the lawmakers who had racked up the most absences in the lower chamber. Despite the scrutiny, the boxer made it clear that he has done a great deal to help the people he represents.

"I don't want to boast about what I have done in my district, but you can see my accomplishments in my district. It's important that you help your constituents and not just sit in Congress," he told the Center for Media Freedom & Responsibility in February. "[In Congress] all you do is file bills, but the bills have no benefits to the people."

Along with serving his constituents, Pacquiao has said he also wants to encourage Christians around the world to fulfill the Great Commission by sharing their testimonies with the people they meet.

The move paid off as Ronda Rousey has spawned into a superstar mixed martial artist as well as an actress and model.

Even with all of the superstar qualities, it's still wouldn't mean she'd become a top-PPV grossing athlete, but her PPV sales say otherwise, as she continues to sell at a very high rate.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, her last PPV against Betche Correa is projected to have sold over 1 Million and a future bout with her rival Cyborg Justino is predicted to sell over 2 million.

Before Rousey came along, the highest selling PPV for a women's fight was Leila Ali vs Jacqui Fraizer-Lyde in 2001, selling over 100,000.

Ronda Rousey has near decupled that margin.

So a question arises: When will Boxing find it's Rousey? And does she even exist?
Ireland's Taylor is far and away the most accomplished amateur female boxer in the history, having one the European Amateur Championship almost every single year between 2006 and 2014.

She also won Olympic Gold in 2012, has won nearly every amateur championship she's entered, and was voted Sportswoman of the Year in 2012.


Rousey wasn't as dominant in her amateur career in Judoka, although her MMA career has been just as dominant.

When will Taylor get her opportunity to shine in comparison to Rousey?

And when will boxing catch up to MMA and start giving females more respect and fanfare?

Cotto is a four-division champion but a small middleweight, he’s never in fact reached the 160lbs limit, though he looked the same size as Canelo, who has been fighting at a similar 155lbs catchweight. Neither man is much of a raconteur but their November 21 clash at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas should speak for itself.

“In the history of boxing there’s been great fights between Mexico and Puerto Rico and I want this fight to be no different. I was this to be a historic fight. It’s an honour for me and I’m very happy to be fighting a great warrior like Miguel Cotto, a true champion,” Alvarez said.

“I’m going to prepare the best I ever have. I want to be ready for this fight and I want to win because like every Mexican we come here to be victorious. I’m one of those Mexicans and on November 21 we will win.”

Floyd Mayweather Jr. signed off from professional boxing as he had planned on Saturday, going out unbeaten and on his own terms as 'The Best Ever' after improving his career record to 49-0.

After a stellar 19-year run that produced world titles in five weight divisions and earnings in excess of $800 million, Mayweather bade farewell to the ring with a clinical display to earn a unanimous decision over fellow American Andre Berto.

"I had a game plan from the very beginning," Mayweather, 38, said of his career during a lengthy news conference after retaining his WBC and WBA welterweight titles in the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

"I always knew what I wanted to do -- be outspoken, be one of a kind. To be in the sport for 19 years and to be world champion 18 years, I've had a remarkable career.

"If you put them (opponents) in front of me, we see what they can do. It's all about that IQ. I'm 10 steps ahead of any fighter. I take whatever is your best attribute and take that away from you, make you do what you don't want to do."

Mayweather, who matched the 49-0 career record set by former heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano, is widely regarded as one of the best defensive practitioners of all time while his ability to out-think opponents and adjust strategy midway through fights is unparalleled among contemporary fighters.

However, he has also been a polarizing figure because of his arrogance and flamboyant showmanship, and has certainly not always endeared himself to boxing fans with his repeated claims that he is TBE (The Best Ever).
