Galatasaray Sports Club has given a statement announcing that Galatasaray Men’s Basketball team withdraws from the seventh round in the 2013-2014 BBL Playoff Final Series which was scheduled to take place at the Istanbul Ülker Sports Arena on Thursday evening.

In his statement President Aysal said:

We declare that we do not recognize the decision taken today by the Federation that is supposedly in charge of directing and overseeing the basketball in Turkey.

Contrary to the warning made by our Coach Ergin Ataman and to the solid evidence which our administrators put forward during the press conference held Sunday night, we believe that for a game where safety is not ensured to be played with spectators is a betrayal to Turkish sports community.

In spite of our warning remarks it is definitely feckless to insist on such a decision which may produce undesired grave results.

If anything, this final derby should have been played without spectators but with a group of unblemished referees.

If a person “convicted for match-fixing” is capable of dominating boards of commissions and referees, neither justice nor moral values have any meaning unlike countries where the law abide.

If a referee, whose purposeful decisions throughout the playoff series hinted his intentions and whose name is uttered in the recordings related to the match-fixing probations, has been assigned to the crucial final playoff round, it is an evident proof of who runs the show in the basketball federation.

In the face of decisions ignoring safety and law, refusing to take part in a dirty game, Galatasaray Men’s Basketball team withdraws from the match scheduled to take place on Thursday.

Being the club that started basketball in Turkey, both women’s and men’s basketball teams of Galatasaray will soon consider and discuss withdrawal from participating the leagues in the next season.

Galatasaray Sports Club is determined to claim all its rights by applying to international federations and arbitration committees in the light of all information and documents.
