Zhu Lin, who is a 32-year-old Chinese player, had previously been ranked 32nd in WTA, however she has dropped out of the top 100 due to injuries. She is a regular player in major tournaments, but her injuries have affected her performance even in smaller ITF level tournaments. In the previous round of this tournament, she defeated Preston from Ghana in two sets.

On the other side, the local player Jones Emerson, who is 17 years old, has been performing fairly well in the ITF level with three titles under her belt.
