Wimbledon. Semifinal. Vekic versus Paolini. We are rooting for the Italian.
After a poor clay season, Vekic seems to be performing much better on grass. Although she only reached the quarterfinals in Hertogenbosch, she made it all the way to the final in Bad Homburg, where she lost as the favorite. Although she went far in Wimbledon, she battled through almost all of her matches in three sets, except against Badosa where she was the clear favorite. Now she is up against a strong opponent and I don't believe she will be able to overcome this barrier.
After reaching the French Open final, Paolini continues to show promise on grass. She is a very determined player who impresses me. She never gives up and often wins back service games from her opponent. In her last match, she easily defeated Navarro and seems to be in a strong emotional state.
Their head-to-head stands at 2-1 in Paolini's favor, but all three matches were played on hard courts, so it doesn't tell us much. Overall, I believe Paolini is a strong contender to win Wimbledon, especially now that Swiatek is out.
The match won't be easy, but I believe in the Italian, and the odds are consistently dropping everywhere. In many places, they have already reached 1.5. Good luck.
