Spain has shown the best game in this championship so far: 5 wins in regular time and one in overtime against the host Germans, who were also one of the favorites to win the tournament. Overall, Spanish opponents were stronger than the English, but the latter struggled much more: after a lackluster group stage, their poor performance against Peru in the knockouts, where they narrowly escaped defeat against the Slovaks, and their comeback from behind against the Swiss with an 80th-minute goal by Bukayo Saka and a win on penalties. In the game against the Netherlands, there was also a questionable penalty, which according to the rulebook was probably the right decision, but again, it did not reflect the course of the game and came almost out of nowhere. Southgate is probably the luckiest head coach ever, to be able to go so far with such a directionless game. However, the Spanish have already beaten such a team in the semi-finals, and if there is a bus to break, they will be able to do it. So I think it's still too early for football to come home.
