Olympics. Basketball. Final. France against USA. Let's go with a handicap for France.
The French looked very poorly prepared and played poorly in the group stage, but have shown a completely different face in the playoffs. They confidently beat Canada and dominated against Germany. In both matches, they were considered underdogs, but fought exceptionally well. What surprised me the most was that their coach was not afraid to bench Gobert in both games. It seems to have paid off. Even Fournier, after his remarks, was benched, which seems to have worked because he no longer brings his team down. Yabusele and Lessort have been playing wonderfully in the knockout matches, and Cordinier cuts through defenses impeccably. Of course, the French size with Wemby and Gobert also makes it difficult for teams to score easy points, and Batum puts great pressure on players with the ball. I just see this team in a different light.
The USA are the favorites and stand out, but Serbia has already shown that they can compete with them. Yes, the Serbians made some incredible shots, but the French have another weapon - a great defense and rebounding. Without Curry, it was really difficult for other teams to score 3PTs against Serbia, and it will be tough to battle under the basket against the French.
I'm not completely confident in France's chances, but they always put up a good fight against the USA. They also gave a good fight in previous Olympics, and now they're playing at home. The arena gives them an extra boost, like they have a 6th player. In my opinion, the handicap is too high and I hope to see a good final. Good luck.
