After defeating one Japanese player, Rune now faces another whom I personally believe is even weaker. Nishikori is a veteran who can play well, but is no longer as good as he used to be. Rune can play well, as he has shown in this tournament and being guaranteed to play against Nishioka personally motivates him to take Dana and play against another local player whose years are now in the past.
