WTA Tour. Tokyo.
Andreescu encountered difficulties in her first match against a significantly weaker Japanese player, particularly in the first set, as the Japanese player was able to change her attack strategy and target Andreescu's backhand more frequently. In the end, improved first serves and well-executed drop shots and forehand shots helped Andreescu to win the first set and disrupt Japan's rhythm to reach the victory, which was certainly not easy.
Against Haddad Maia, there will not be such easy points. Brazil should dominate with attacking shots targeting Andreescu's backhand. Moreover, higher quality serves and maintaining a good first-serve percentage (throughout the Asian tour) should allow for an easy point collection for the Brazilian player.
