Both players, Pavlyuchenkova and Boulter, are not playing well on clay. After the Abu Dhabi tournament in 2020, where she withdrew due to injury during a match against Linette, Pavlyuchenkova only played three matches and lost all of them in straight sets. She also lost to Sevastova 4:6; 5:7 last week. Boulter's results this season have also been poor, but she managed to defeat Siniakova on clay in Madrid. Pavlyuchenkova has been hopeless on clay, even in her best years.
