In the first league match against Gorica, Varzadin played to a draw of 1-1, but completely dominated and had opportunities for 3+ goals. In the second match, due to a red card and the resulting lost chances, despite even receiving a red card, they were unable to secure a win. They are now facing a truly challenging opponent, but due to these past two matches, they may be underestimated. Osijek did not beat Rijeka, despite Rijeka even receiving a red card and not having many chances against Zagreb's Dinamo. These teams are of a similar level, but Varzadin plays at home, where they have stood their ground against much stronger opponents.
