Two American women Townsend Taylor - 29 years old and Stearns Peyton - 24 years old meet. Both strongly advance towards the end of the tournament, especially Stearns who struggles with her game, perhaps due to recent injuries or a lack of strength, as she starts the tournaments impressively in the first round but then seems to falter, as her serve is often weak and unreliable, especially in the second set where she usually doesn't even win 50% of her points. This can also be seen in the increasing number of double faults throughout the tournament. Another thing to note is that she often receives medical help, as she is struggling with her knee. On the other hand, Townsend serves the ball much better and is physically stronger, with more powerful serves. In terms of achievements, they are both similar, with neither of them having won a WTA title on fast surfaces. However, in all aspects of the game, Townsend has the advantage, and she will even play in the doubles final after this match. The only downside is that they have played against each other before, with Townsend winning 2:1 four years ago, but even then Stearns didn't have enough strength to win the match after losing the first set. So her condition may also be a factor in her performance in this tournament.
