Paolini Jasmine, a 30-year-old Italian player, is unrecognizable this season. Perhaps she has not recovered from the 2025 year-end tournament where she lost all her matches and has not been able to bounce back. This year, at the third stages of the AO and the semifinals at the small WTA Merida, she didn't make much of an impact apart from beating Sasnovich and Potapova. She mostly played against underdogs and always managed to win in two sets, against players like Bencic, Jovic, Sakkari, Eala, and Bucsa. So, the players she defeated were not elite. I only watched her match against Potapova, only the first set, and it seemed like she started off well but then started giving away points on her serve, and she struggled at the net. She made uncharacteristic mistakes and it seemed like her strength was limited. She has a low height, no strong serve, and makes a lot of mistakes in her game.
Tomljanovic Ajla, a 32-year-old Australian player, was impressive at this tournament, which is not surprising for her. I watched her match against Chinese player Wang X and she dominated the Chinese player. She has great shots and a decent serve. The only downside is that she makes a lot of double faults and has had some injuries in recent years, but her match against the Chinese player looked good.
