EPL: Arsenal vs Manchester United Betting Preview

A very interesting Monday night football match up as Top 4 chasing Arsenal travel to face a dangerous Watford side.

Currently looking at the table, both sides got something to play. Watford are 10th but with 1 or 2 games in hand on certain opponents above and just one point off the 7th place, they could very well finish 7th which would guarantee a Europa League spot meanwhile Arsenal are 6th but also with games in hand on opponents above and just 3 points off 4th placed Chelsea (2 games in hand on then) they would achieve their goal of making the top 4 if they were to win out the rest of the season.

Watford’s form has been great entering this game, in fact ever since 2019 started they’ve been great with only 3 defeats from 17 games including an FA Cup run which led them to the Final which they’ll play later. Watford fans are enjoying some of the best football right now. Watford have won 7 of their last 10 games and are coming off their biggest win of the season against Wolves 3-2 which enabled them to make the Fa Cup Final so to say their morale is high would be an understatement right now which makes them very dangerous to play against right now.

Arsenal are also playing good football, though most of their games lately have been at home where they’ve been very good. Arsenal have won 8 of last 11 games (1D 2L) and are coming off a very impressive 2-0 win against Napoli most recently on Thursday in Europa League. Arsenal’s attack has especially been providing a lot of productivity in the past few weeks which led them to this recent success.

Watford have been exceptional at home lately, in fact no defeats at home in 2019 in 5 home games and are currently on a 4 game win streak in front of their fans in all competitions. Although Watford haven’t faced any big sides in 2019 it still is impressive how well they’ve been playing at home since the calendar year turn. One bit of negative though they have lost to 4 of 5 other big 6 clubs at home this season only beating Spurs, but then following with losses to Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City so to sum it up they have been solid at home especially in 2019, but haven’t had much success against the big sides which copes well for Arsenal.

Arsenal have been horrendous away from home. The only reason they’re still in the top 4 race and maintaining their EL spot is because of how good they are at home. Arsenal have the 10th worst away record, they have just won 5 of 15 away from home in the league and just one away win from their last 10 travels in the league which came against Huddersfield who are bottom of the league and across all competitions in 2019 Arsenal just won away from home twice that was as mentioned against Huddersfield and League One’s Blackpool in the Cup. Arsenal have yet to keep a clean sheet and have a -2 GD on their travels away from home in the Premier League and considering they have 4 of their last 6 games away from home against decent sides such as Watford in the league that away form/record is a significant worry for the Gunners.

Troy Deeney has to be the man to watch for Watford. Most goal contributions this season with 14 (9G 5A) in the league, enjoying what arguably is his best season in the Premier League and is currently on good form having scored 5 in last 8 and in each of his last 2 appearances including the equaliser in the Fa Cup against Wolves which sent the game to extra time which Watford then won.

As for Arsenal, you have to say that Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is the man. 22 goal contributions in the league (17G 5A), his 17 goals is just 2 away from being the tied top scorer so he’ll definitely be the one that has to deliver for the Gunners up front if they want this crucial away win.

Arsenal won the reverse fixture 2-0 at the Emirates. It was a tightly contested match and Watford could’ve stole something, but 2 late goals from the Gunners earned the 3 points.

Looking at H2H since Watford got promoted in 2015, Watford have definitely caused a few upsets against Arsenal winning 3 of the 9 H2H matches since although Arsenal have been able to get the best of Watford more often than not still with 6 wins from these matches. Arsenal have done well at Vicarage Road winning 2 of the 3 matches since 2015 but Watford have won the most recent 2-1 last season at home. Further looking at H2H, these teams tend to have high scoring games as 3+ goals have been scored in 8 of those 9 meetings in recent years and there hasn’t been a draw in 20 straight matches dating to 1984 between these clubs so expect a winner if history doesn’t deceive us on Monday.

Arsenal are bookies favourites to win at 2.24, Watford are slight underdogs to win at 3.25 and Draw is priced at 3.70. Arsenal are the better team overall and are the understandable favourites, however the margin isn’t big between the sides as Watford have been playing great football and Arsenal have struggled away from home. Don’t be surprised if Watford pull off a good result for themselves here, the Gunners will need to work very hard if they want all 3 points. Odds are based on Unibet.
