This year marks the “Year of the Rabbit” for many who take part in the yearly traditions that are meant to bring prosperity and happiness to those of Chinese origin. In Las Vegas, signs of prosperity are always welcome and this year, many Strip casinos are preparing for the festivities which start on February 4 and just happen to also line up with Super Bowl weekend.

Super Bowl festivities aside, several Vegas casinos will be celebrating by creating special decorative installations and adding special Chinese dishes to their menus.

According to the Las Vegas Sun, The Bellagio Hotel and Casino has turned their Conservatory and Botanical Gardens into a beautiful display of flowers and greenery which includes a 45-foot tall Chinese Junk Boat along with a 12-foot rabbit to symbolize the upcoming New Year celebration. If you have any personal desires or would like a few tips on how to carry out a successful year, you may want to whisper in the ear of the towering god of prosperity which is located at the entrance of the exhibit. As you walk through the gardens, you will also see a collection of terracotta warriors which are apparently beautifully decorated with walnuts and carrot seeds.

For those looking to try out a few special dishes related to the Chinese New Year, Wazuzu at the Wynn Casino is concocting his own set of dishes with special ingredients related to the grand celebration. One very lucky dish is the hair sea moss and dried oyster soup with pork tongue which is meant to offer those who ingest it wealth, good news and successful business ventures.

Many hotels on the strip will be participating in the Chinese New Year festivities including the City Center complex which is housing an 11-foot super bunny.

Las Vegas could very well be the city with the most booze consumption but the state of Nevada has never had its own distillery. Now, with the help of George and Katalin Racz, Nevada is in line to have its’ very own production of all the fine spirits that make Las Vegas go boom.

The native Hungarian couple learned the business due to their family’s background in the distillery business and according to Las Vegas Weekly, they will be using 2 copper stills which will be used to create whisky, bourbon, gin and vodka. Once all permits are in place, the couple could very well jumpstart their operation in February.

George, who is fulfilling his dream with his new distillery, is hoping to sell his product to local distributors but hopes to all sell his spirits directly from his operation in Henderson which is a town directly south of Las Vegas.

The Las Vegas Weekly also reported how George chose to run his operation in Nevada because it is one of the few states that don’t currently have its own distillery. He’ll be breaking new ground in Nevada and as George puts it, “We’re so happy to find Henderson. No one was here before us.”

His operation will be somewhat of a boutique distillery that if all goes according to plan his 2 years of hard work could very well turn into an important Nevada landmark.

Casino revenue in Macau jumped 33 percent in January from a year earlier to 18.57 billion patacas ($2.3 billion), the Macau government said on Tuesday, supported by hoardes of gamblers from mainland China who flock to the former Portuguese enclave.

Surging demand from the high-roller VIP segment and a solid mass-market appetite has sustained strong growth in the world's largest gambling market.

Casino operators including Wynn Resorts Ltd (WYNN.O) and Las Vegas Sands Corp (LVS.N) have been bolstered by a buoyant Chinese economy, prompting double-digit revenue streams from their Macau casinos that dwarf those from their Las Vegas counterparts.

If you’re planning on heading over to Dallas for Super Bowl XLV 2011, then you’ll have plenty of wild parties to help you both prepare and unwind after the big event. You’ll find celebrities galore in Dallas this week starting today through Sunday including the likes of P. Diddy, Hillary Swank, Prince and even Kid Rock will be helping you party like it’s your birthday throughout Super Bowl week.

The big event will be held in the Arlington, Texas and will be hosting the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers this coming Sunday along with a stadium full of wild football fans and celebrities who will be there to support their favorite team and join in the festivities.

There are plans – big plans- for pre-game partying as well as after parties including Mark Cuban, the owner of Dallas Mavericks is claiming to be throwing the biggest Super Bowl party in town on Saturday night. According to Fox Sports, Samantha Ronson (Lindsay Lohan’s Ex) will be the DJ and Usher will also be invited to perform at Victory Park which is the entertainment area surrounding the stadium.

Little does Cuban know that he’s not the only show in town because there will be plenty more heavy hitters in town to woo visitors including P. Diddy’s "What’s Your Fantasy" pre-show and Grand Finale after party which is set to include celebrities, athletes and special Fantasy hostesses.

For those looking for a more of a low-key classy event, actress Hillary Swank will be hosting the charity event “Big Game Give” where high-profile celebrities and athletes will gather to help raise funds for the Starkey Hearing Foundation to be held at Phil and Lillie Romano’s 5-acre estate. This power couple is behind the success of the Macaroni Grill and Fuddruckers restaurants and has devoted much of their time to several charities including this one. The “Big Game Give” event is very exclusive and apparently one of the most glamorous events and declared one of the best Super Bowl parties by ESPN and tickets are $1K a pop.

Other stars making their way to Dallas include Jamie Foxx, Prince, and the party many male football fans have probably been waiting for, the Penthouse Super Party at the American Airlines Center.

Whatever party it is you’re into, you’ll be sure to find it in Big D.

Arizona officials say they're seeing another increase in revenue from tribal casinos.

The Arizona Department of Gaming reported Wednesday that tribes' payments will be about $11.3 million for the quarter that ended Dec. 31. That's up 1.6 percent from last year's corresponding quarter.

Gaming Director Mark Brnovich says the trend line is moving in the right direction for the second consecutive quarter. He says state officials are hoping it's the beginning of a broader recovery.

Money from the payments will be distributed to various special funds including ones for education, emergency services, tourism and gambling prevention.

The 22 tribal casinos in Arizona pay the state between 1 and 8 percent of their gross revenue from certain types of gambling, including slot machines and card games.

The mystery of the Bellagio Casino bandit has been solved after Anthony Carleo from Las Vegas was arrested today for a December14th burglary where a gunman wearing a motorcycle helmet hit up a Bellagio craps table taking with him $1.5 million worth of casino chips.

Carleo, otherwise known as Anthony Assad, was arrested after he attempted to sell the chips to undercover police. Many wondered what the robber would do with the chips since the Bellagio quickly discontinued all $25K chips which were part of the stash he ran off with.

According to the Las Vegas Sun, he was arrested on counts of robbery with the use of a deadly weapon, burglary and trafficking in a controlled substance. The drug charge came into play after drugs were found during the investigation.

Carleo was a biology student at UNLV and is the son of Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge, George Assad. He is also suspected of a robbery on Dec. 8 of the Suncoast Casino where $20,000 was also taken.

According to the Las Vegas Journal Review, he is currently being held with no bail as the investigation continues.

The robbery was almost pointless because casino chips are almost worthless because of the high controls casinos have over their chips. In an earlier investigation it was suspected that casino chips include some type of radio frequency device to help track them in cases such as these but the Bellagio did not confirm or deny this information.

The crew of MTV’s The Real World packed up and moved to Vegas for its 25th season where seven strangers will run through the same drill that so many others before them have done except this time they will be exposed to all of the temptations of Sin City.

It’s hard to believe that this show is still around especially after the reality television bubble has begun to burst. The show’s producers set these guys up with plenty of Vegas activities to boost ratings including plenty of wild parties, sex, gambling and all of those activities that will put these guys in compromising positions.

The show has just wrapped up filming in a high roller’s suite at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino where all 7 cast mates daily activities were recorded and revealed to the world. According to People Magazine, the show is expected to air in March.

"Everything in Vegas is on a grander scale, and that comes through loud and clear this season," MTV says in a statement. "Romance among the cast members is at an all time high, and as secrets each cast member has brought with them are revealed, those relationships will be challenged and tested."

The show has come a long way since its beginnings back in 1992 and while they seemed to perfect the formula for reality television shows, they seem to be struggling these days to stay in the game with the likes of their very own, The Jersey Shore.

With so many groupies around, you’d think that Jersey Shore star Pauly D would have a date lined up for Valentine’s Day. Well, it seems that the guy is date-free and will be looking for a special lady to spend the day with him at the Palms Casino where he will also be DJing.

In order to find his special lady, he will be holding a contest called the “Win a Date with Pauly D” and will be awarding one lucky fan with a very special night out including a romantic dinner with Pauly at the Palms Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on February 12.

In order to win a date with him you’ll have to come up with a clever pick-up line which you can add to his Facebook page. He’ll be reviewing each pick-up line in hopes of finding one he can probably put to good use back in Jersey and of course to find a date for Saturday night.

So far among the entries include: “Can I read your T-shirt in Braille?” and “Is that a mirror in your pocket, because I can see myself in your pants.” These are just a few of the entries that have popped up so far but if you should be chosen, then you will win dinner with Pauly along with three of your girlfriends, VIP access to the Playboy Club and Moon Nightclub, shampoo and treatment at the Palms Hotel Spa and a tanning session so you and Pauly can have matching tans.

The Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas has been going through some tough times lately after facing foreclosure of their famed hotel and casino property. Within days of the foreclosure auction which was to be held Tuesday, an agreement was reached with their lender in order to save the property.

It was a close call for the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino who has been experiencing financial troubles including a total debt of $1.3 billion. According to Jeff Silver, the Hard Rock Hotel attorney, “the lenders and borrowers have reached an agreement going forward that would make the foreclosure tomorrow unnecessary.”

Last week, Hard Rock management was preparing for foreclosure by finding a management company, Navegante Group, to take control of the property just in case. The company trying to foreclose on The Hard Rock Hotel is called North Star Realty Finance Corp. of New York and according to the Las Vegas Sun they made the announcement last Friday to hotel representatives.

The Hard Rock Hotel’s lawyers found that North Star’s actions were premature and was choosing to only give five days notice before actually foreclosing on the property. “Moreover, this last-minute attempted foreclosure is to take place two days before the maturity of substantial debt senior to the NorthStar loan, making it perfectly clear that NorthStar's efforts are tactical and self-centered, rather than some legitimate attempt to vindicate its legal rights,”said Hard Rock reps.

After all was said and done, an agreement was reached this past weekend, putting an end to the foreclosure proceedings. Well thank goodness for that, can you picture Las Vegas without the Hard Rock Hotel? You probably could, but it would be definitely be missed.

Another governor, another effort to increase gambling revenue for the state.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo is hoping to raise $155 million in the coming fiscal year by expanding the state Lottery.

His proposals include increasing where the keno-like Quick Draw game can be played and adding 50 marketing staffers to get lottery games sold at more stores -- including at pharmacies like CVS and Rite-Aid.

Cuomo is the latest governor to look to gambling as the state scrambles to find new revenue, and some of the same proposals this year have been beaten back by the Legislature in the past.

Gambling addiction groups are miffed at this year's attempt because Cuomo also wants to reduce and restructure the 41 existing gambling education programs across the state, as well as delay the start of five more.

The budget seeks to reduce spending at all state agencies, including a $46 million, or a 6.4 percent, cut to the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services, which oversees gambling prevention programs.

"This is a time when we need to expand the services to protect New Yorkers," said James Maney, executive director of the New York Council on Problem Gambling.

Cuomo's aides contended there is no specific cut in funding identified for gambling treatment programs, but the programs would be restructured and aid would be based on competitive grants.

Cuomo made the proposals in his budget, which was released Tuesday. It is now up to the Legislature to adopt or change the plan. The state's fiscal year starts April 1.

As other governors have proposed, Cuomo is also seeking to cut aid to communities that host the state's video-lottery facilities at racetracks. The communities -- seven of them -- would lose a total of $6.2 million in aid, but the City of Yonkers would continue to get its $19.6 million in aid for hosting Yonkers Raceway.

Among the lottery expansions is a proposal that would allow the state's eight racinos to offer "free play" to frequent customers, essentially free credits at the machines.

The state lottery has been running the program temporarily at the Monticello Casino and Raceway in Sullivan County and at Tioga Downs in the Southern Tier. Yonkers also ran the incentive program.

Another proposal would allow New York to enter into progressive jackpots for some video-lottery games with other states, potentially West Virginia, Rhode Island and Delaware, which all run similar slot-machine like games.

Another Cuomo initiative would be to add a surcharge on purses -- the cash won by the horse owners -- at racetracks of 2.75 percent.

Horse owners are angry over the proposal, saying the surcharge would fund drug testing of horses that used to be paid by the tracks.

In recent years, the state Racing and Wagering Board picked up the tab, but it is running a deficit on the expense.

Blackjack players in Pennsylvania are up in arms about local casinos promoting the idea to local government about upping the odds of a natural blackjack hand from a 3 to 2 to 6 to 5 payout which is very much in the favor of the casino.

Many casinos in Las Vegas are now adopting the 6-5 payout rule which is very much a cash cow and works well with unsuspecting tourists. It’s the experienced player that is truly worried here especially the ones used to the current payout rules of 3-2 which means that they stand to win $15 for every $10 bet. With the new rules players stand to win $12 for every $10 bet.

While the change may not sound drastic, it adds up, and quickly. According to Blackjack Champ, there is a second rule which may be revised which is the one where the dealer must stand on soft 17 (Ace + 6). There is a chance this rule could be updated to let the dealer hit during this scenario, giving the dealer and the house a considerable advantage.

These are all rules that were recently introduced after Pennsylvania legislators approved the addition of table games to Pennsylvania casinos who up until July 2010 only housed slot machines.

The new blackjack rules will be reviewed by the Gaming Control Board in three months time and will consider the proposed updated rules to be added on permanently as a general rule for all Pennsylvania state casinos. This battle won't be won that easily because they can expect a serious backlash from many regular blackjack players.

It’s been about four months since the band of 33 Chilean miners were rescued from 2,000 miles beneath the earth in an incident that attracted worldwide attention. Now, these guys apart from appreciating life that much more have been the center of attention and 13 of them recently made their way to the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek in Florida where they were the guests of honor at the “Tribute to Heroes and Miracles” fundraiser event.

During the event, the miners shared stories about their experience in the mine and one of the miners shared how “People are always asking us how our lives have changed, said Mario Sepulveda. According to Casino-com, he continued to explain how he feels they are the same people and how through their experience they have been able to experience the warmth of strangers from all over.

Ever since their dramatic rescue in October these guys have been touring the world and sharing their experiences. Shortly after their rescue, a news story broke out that Brad Pitt was willing to go out of his way to buy the rights to the story which means that these guys will be in the limelight for some time to come.

During their time at the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek they tried their luck at blackjack among other casino games. It’s been a wild ride for these guys who definitely deserve the positive attention they have been receiving.

The Rivers Casino has landed in hot water with the state Gaming Control Board over seven incidents involving underage gambling, including one in which a 15-year-old boy played slot machines for an hour at the North Shore venue.

On Thursday, the gaming board fined the Rivers $105,000 -- the agency's largest fine ever for underage gambling -- as a result of the violations, another of which involved an 18-year-old girl who had been issued a player's card by the casino.

Board members also fined The Meadows Racetrack and Casino $30,000 for three underage gambling violations, including one in which a 3-year-old went onto the gambling floor with his stepmother. The Meadows fired two security officers as a result of that incident.

"The board takes underage individuals on the floor very seriously. They've been telling the casinos over the last year to address this and to expect the fines to continue to get higher if they don't," gaming board spokesman Richard McGarvey said.

Both fines were included in consent agreements and stipulated settlements approved by the board Thursday. The action marks the second time in the past 14 months that the two casinos have been fined for underage gambling.

In Pennsylvania, it's illegal for people under the age of 21 to gamble in a casino or even set foot on the gambling floor.

At the Rivers, violations occurred between June and January and involved individuals ranging in age from 15 to 20.

According to the consent agreement, the 15-year-old boy entered the casino with his mother at 1:56 a.m. Jan. 1. A security guard failed to ask the boy for identification.

The boy gambled for about an hour at two slot machines before he was confronted by another security officer and admitted that he was 15. Officials confiscated $50 in winnings and cited him for underage gambling. In addition, Rivers officials banned the boy and his mother from the casino for life.

The 18-year-old girl used a fake Ohio driver's license to get onto the gambling floor and play slot machines for about 20 minutes. She was pressed about her age when she inquired about a missing purse and eventually admitted she used a false identification.

An investigation found that the teen had been issued a Rivers player's club card on Feb. 15, 2010, and had gambled three times that month, the consent agreement stated.

Other cases involved a 19-year-old man who played slot machines for about 75 minutes; a 20-year-old former Rivers employee who gambled on slots for about five minutes and had a drink; a 20-year-old man who played table games for about 45 minutes, drank and had $175 in chips confiscated; a 19-year-old girl who played slots for 30 minutes; and a 19-year-old man who gambled on slots for about three minutes.

In each instance, the underage person who gambled was banned from the casino for life. Rivers officials also disciplined the security officers involved in each case, the gaming board stated.

The casino, in a statement, said it strongly supported the efforts to prohibit underage gambling. "We take this issue very seriously. The casino itself reported these incidents to the board as part of our commitment to stopping this behavior," spokesman Jack Horner said.

Last year, Rivers was fined $16,000 for two underage gambling violations involving teens, ages 14 and 15, who briefly played slots.

At The Meadows, the 3-year-old and his stepmother got past three security officers to enter the gambling floor on Nov. 27. A few minutes later, a slot attendant escorted the woman and child from the floor. Two of the security officers were fired; the third was working his last day at the venue.

In a July 24 incident, two children, ages 9 and 11, and their mother got past two security officers and crossed the gambling floor to get to a party in another area of the casino. A security officer tried to stop them on the floor but to no avail.

The third episode involved a 20-year-old man who was allowed to enter the casino, play slot machines and drink even though a military identification showed he was underage.

Dave La Torre, a Meadows spokesman, said that in the cases involving the children, the casino reported the violations itself.

As a result of the episodes, the casino is doing an audit of its program to prevent underage gambling and of the training its employees receive toward that end. The casino also has narrowed some entrances to make it easier to scan and stop people. It also has added more signs stating that no one under age 21 is allowed on the gambling floor.
