Vin Diesel, scored big this week after taking home the award for “Action Star of the Year” at this year’s CinemaCon convention at the Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The weeklong event welcomed cinema industry giants and celebrities who were there to promote their latest projects and attend a special awards show.

Vin Diesel was one of the many stars in town to accept awards including Cameron Diaz, who won the “Female Star of the Year” award. Diesel, who has found a niche for himself in the action/adventure genre, has been cast in hits such as “Pitch Black”, “The Fast and the Furious” and “XXX.”

But Vin wasn’t just in town to accept his action star award, according to the Las Vegas Sun, he was also in Las Vegas to shoot one of his latest projects, a reality TV series which chronicles his past experiences as an up and coming actor.

There were many other actors on hand to accept awards as well as to schmooze and network. Others that accepted awards at the ComicCon gala included Ryan Reynolds as “Male Star of the Year” and Russell Brand as “Comedy Star of the Year.”

The convention is also a good barometer for the summer’s upcoming blockbuster hits and among the mix were “Thor”, “Kung Fu Panda” and J.J. Abrams “Super 8.”

It looks like the youngest star of Mirage’s Crazy Horse burlesque show, retro chick Claire Sinclair, is being named this year’s Playboy Playmate of the Year. The 19-year-old star that once dated Hugh Hefner’s son will be honored at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas on May 7, where a special ceremony will take place in her honor.

Claire will be taking over for last year’s winner, 25-year-old Hope Dworaczyk, who proudly carried the title and even made her way to the current season of the reality television series, Celebrity Apprentice, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

The announcement was made last night at the Playboy Mansion and it was a tight competition but Claire managed to beat out two other contenders. Apparently, she already shot the photo spread for the issue announcing her win but her title won’t be official until next month.

Currently she is part of the cast of the burlesque dance troupe which originated in Paris, France, Crazy Horse, which celebrates the sensuality of women and takes audience members through a strip show with an artistic flair, sexy outfits and seductive backdrops. It’s a whole revolution of dance that was recently brought to America and is now being featured in the best possible city for this dance troupe, Sin City.

More news on Nevada's push for legalized online poker. PokerStars and Full Tilt are forging relationships with the major Las Vegas casinos. The ultimate goal is for Nevada to become the "hub of internet gambling in the US".


"The play for Nevada on internet poker is to be kind of a hub of internet gambling in the US," said Chris Krafcik, an editor-at-large with GamblingCompliance.com. "If you're a business, Nevada wants you to come there to get licensed because that's how they'll make money - off business taxes and jobs created by the infrastructure that will be built in Nevada. It's a long term play. Nevada would become a highly technical center for Internet gambling in the US."

"Will these partnerships be as effective as the market is treating them now?" Krafcik asked. "Or, can we even say at this point that we know what a regulated environment will look like? Will it be two states operating internet gambling? Will it be four? Will it be overseen by the federal government? What will the tax rate be like? What games will be allowed? What's the operating environment going to be like?

"There are so many questions right now," he continued. "The market is reading these deals as lucrative and there's potential for that, but to judge these deals as successful already and view them with reverence, I think it's a little too early for that. We'll see what happens with how the market is regulated. That will likely be the single biggest decider of whether these deals are successful. All we know is two very large companies have signed an agreement that may or may not happen."

A total of 15 waitresses were fired from the Resorts Casino in Atlantic City after a change in uniforms to a skimpy flapper outfit caused those who did not wear it well to lose their jobs. The change in uniforms enforced by the casino didn’t exactly take into account that their waitresses were of all ages, shapes and sizes which led these women to file a lawsuit against the casino.

According to the NY Daily News, the lawsuit was only filed by 7 of the women who are claiming that they were fired by the Resorts Casino owner, Dennis Gomes, because they did not fit into his boss’s “body ideal or appearance idea.”

The casino changed their uniforms due to a new theme they adopted celebrating the roaring 20’s and it seems that when the change took place they held some type of judging contest to see who would make the cut and work to introduce their new theme, which is where the older and heavier ladies were booted out.

According to Atlantic Weekly, a spokesperson for the hotel released the following statement, “We empathize with the cocktail servers who lost their jobs and gave them hiring preference in other open positions at Resorts. Some took advantage of the offer and some did not.”
