Think of a casino and chances are, what comes to mind is a dark, low-ceilinged warehouse of slot machines and card tables, bathed in cigarette smoke.

Revel, the casino-resort opening April 2 in Atlantic City, breaks all the old casino rules. The smoke-free resort embraces the ocean rather than turning its back on it, the way many of its competitors do.

It makes more use of sunlight and sweeping views of the beach and ocean than the other eight Boardwalk casinos, which were designed to keep gamblers fixated on, well, gambling. Thoughts of wandering outside to smell the salt air were left to those whose money was gone.

But at Revel, you can see the ocean from a good part of the casino floor, a no-no in other places. And Revel lets guests go right to their rooms without crossing the casino floor.

The United Kingdom’s Gambling Commission is embarking on a program that will protect the public and especially families with children from exposure to all forms of wagering at inappropriate times. The U.K.’s Channel 4 TV show Deal Or No Deal may have to be aired after the 9pm when children are in bed because it has been considered by the Commission to have a gambling theme at its heart. ITV’s Red or Black is another show also under consideration for a time slot change because of the gambling aspect the show presents.

The race to represent the Republican Party in this year’s election in an effort to unseat President Barack Obama has been closer than a few people expected, which is fantastic for the President, who is stepping up his efforts for another four years in the White House while his adversaries battle among themselves.

Join Bovada Sportsbook right now and make your Presidential vote count even more.

President Obama is gathering funds for his campaign in preparation for the end of the Republican primaries, which is expected to be won by Massachussets governor Mitt Romney. Even though it was less than the amount Obama raised this time four years ago, it was still more than Romney, who is still using funds for his GOP campaign. The Republicans immediately attempted to spin it Obama’s four-year discrepancy as a sign from the American citizens are not as confident in their President as before, which the Democrats rebuffed.

2012 US Presidential Election - Winning Party
Democratic Party -225
Republican Party +185

It isn’t going to be an easy road for President Obama as the American economy is just only recovering (albeit quicker than expected) now from a damaging downturn and employment is just starting to rise. The extra time that the Republican Party spends on their own race gives him more time to gather the resources needed to fight what is surely going to be a nasty campaign on the path to the White House in November.

Romney is still trying to ward off Rick Santorum and New Gingrich (Ron Paul is all but an afterthought) in the Republican race, which gives Obama a small edge as he will be rested for the grueling stretch of campaign. Expect the President to hit the trail even harder and gather donations in order to retain his place in the White House this fall.

The European Commission has criticised revised proposals from 15 German states for a new treaty on Internet gambling, saying it needed evidence that the planned restrictions, which have also drawn criticism from gambling companies, were justified.

Germany's 16 states currently have a state monopoly on online gambling, but 15 of them in December backed a new gambling law that would award 20 nationwide licences to sports betting companies.

The Commission outlined its criticisms in a letter that has not yet been published but has been seen by Reuters.

The British Columbia Lottery Corporation, the Atlantic Lottery Corporation, and Loto-Québec have all got their feet wet in online gaming, where you can purchase 6/49 lotto tickets through their websites. While Ontario will roll out some online options later in 2012, online gambling continues to be very popular outside the provincial websites.

In fact, it may surprise you to learn that the heavily advertised PokerStars, featuring Canadian poker legend Daniel Negreanu, is not even close to being the number one offshore gambling site. It sits at just 1,878th in Canadian web traffic in the last three months according to Alexa.

Rather, sites like 888 Poker, which is ranked 264th, offer far more than just poker. Sites such as Roulette Bot (ranked 366th while growing 33,200% worldwide in three months) are leading the way.

Online gaming is known to do a lot – waste time, provide entertainment, help people double their monthly income, but it is also known to reduce levels of stress as well. A study done at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada stated that online gaming may actually be good for people’s overall health. This study demonstrated that after playing some online games, which included online casino games, individuals were a lot less stressed. In fact, cortisol levels, the hormone responsible for inducing stress, fell by 17 percent on average. For a number of behavioral scientists, this is strong proof that there is a correlation between online gaming and reducing stress levels.

A retired state appeals court justice and a city business development administrator were appointed Tuesday to the final two slots on the five-person Massachusetts Gaming Commission.

The commission can now begin addressing the thorny issues of how best to oversee the creation of a casino gambling industry in the state.

The appointees are retired associate justice of the Massachusetts Appeals Court James McHugh and business development administrator for the City of Springfield Bruce Stebbins. They were chosen by Gov. Deval Patrick, Attorney General Martha Coakley and Treasurer Steven Grossman.

The commission has far-reaching powers to review gambling proposals and issue coveted licenses for three resort style casinos and one slots parlor.

The 2012 race to win the nomination for the Republican party leader has been dragging on now with a clear-cut favorite in Mitt Romney but he can’t seem to put his rivals to bed. That’s been benefiting President Barack Obama, but it looks like Romney has put Rick Santorum to bet with a big win in Illinois.

Romney, from Massachussets, had a tight grip on the race with 454 delegates, which is more than twice as many as Pennsylvania’s Rick Santorum (173 delegates) or Georgia’s Newt Gingrich (137 delegates), but he has to reach the magic number of 1,144 delegates before the race can officially be called. It might be called sooner than later, though, after his big win in Illinois. He now holds 563 delegates to Santorum’s 263.

Join Bovada Sportsbook right now and make your Presidential vote count today.

It still doesn’t look like Santorum nor Gingrich are giving in and that means the Republicans are spending precious days fighting amongst themselves and giving the opposition a better chance to fortify their resources.

The race is going to go until at least June, some say, so you have more time to throw down a bet on the Republican race, but you may need a slight miracle if you pick someone other than Romney at -1000 (odds prior to Tuesday’s win). Santorum is his most fierce competition at +600, but that is not very settling (particularly for Republicans) and Gingrich sits at +4000 and Ron Paul of Texas, who still won’t bow out despite having only 27 delegates, brings up the rear at +5000. Romney may end up backing in to the Republican nomination, but it is going to take up valuable time and money that the GOP may not have to spare.

I still have not received anything in the mail yet they told me it takes 7 to 14 business days which means they do have till the 31st of this month to get it to me. I have cashed out before once with them but it took like 3 days after they got all my info and did a wire Transfer into my account. You will get the check. It is much safer then wire as the US gov't is screwing over its people big time right now when it comes to "the freedom to do as you wish with your own money"

I trust casinos more then I trust the Govt now... its all a gamble.....

Hawaii and Maine are American states that have been in the news for their online gambling moves. Neither is in the news often for this reason, probably because their initiatives have not made any progress. The news is not very good for online gambling enthusiasts in these states.

The chancellor kick-started the biggest change in gambling since it was liberalised seven years ago by announcing that online betting would now be taxed according to where the person makes the wager.

Under the Labour government, the 2005 Gambling Act levied duty for remote gambling on a “place-of-supply” basis. As a consequence, most of the big gambling operators, including Ladbrokes and William Hill, moved their remote gambling servers offshore.

Beneficial Holdings Inc. is the latest company to apply for a gaming license from the Nevada Gaming Control Board that will allow them to offer online gambling in the Silver State, the hotel-casino operator said Tuesday.

Beneficial, which is based in Managua, Nicaragua, and has an office in Las Vegas, already operates the Bet.cr and Sportsbook.cr online casino and sports-book websites and wants to move its operations into the U.S. market.

Beneficial declared that a Nevada online gaming license would let the company offer "certain online games to residents of Nevada in partnership with an approved land-based casino operator."

The 14th season of Dancing With The Stars began on Monday night on ABC as America, as well as judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli, got their first look at this season’s cast. One of the early favorite for Jaleel White, who is known for his role as nerdy teen Steve Urkel on Family Matters (another ABC program), showed that he had the moves to back up the faith of the oddsmakers.

Join Bovada Sportsbook right now and bet Dancing With The Stars!

White earned plaudits from the panel for his performance with partner Kym Johnson (who has won the competition twice) and there is no reason to believe he’ll fall at all from his listing of 9/2 after his first-night showing. White and Johnson tied for the night’s highest marks with classical singer Katherine Jenkins and her partner, Mark Ballas, who has won this competition once.

None of the pairings really did themselves much damage last night and the odds won’t change until the judges and viewers have a chance to see more of the competition. Donald Driver, veteran wide receiver from the Green Bay Packers, has been paired with Peta Murgatroyd, were solid on the evening. Don’t forget about the early favorites, Latino actor William Levy, who burned up the screen with Cheryl Burke and most feel the race for the top spot will come down to Levy and White when it is all said and done.

But there really wasn’t enough to get a good feel for the competition, so check out Dancing With The Stars this week before the real fun starts when the couples’ first-night scores will be paired with the results from next Monday.

Is the gambling industry recession-proof? The answer isn't as obvious today as it may have been in previous years. In the early days of gambling, the only legal options available in most countries were horse and dog racing. Until 1976, when gambling was legalized in Atlantic City, the only state that allowed players to gamble legally was Las Vegas. Casino games like slots and blackjack only made their way to the rest of the country in the late 1980's by way of riverboat and Indian casinos.
