ATLANTIC CITY - This town isn't Las Vegas, but the $2.4 billion Revel Casino wants to take visitors there with A-list entertainment, posh rooms, and celebrity-chef restaurants in a luxurious setting where the champagne and water in 10 swimming pools are always flowing.

The 20-acre resort - draped in silvery-blue reflective glass - literally curls to and fro like the ocean it embraces. Many see Revel as the lifeline for this down-on-its-luck gambling mecca in need of a revival.

As the 12th casino - the first built from the ground up since the game-changing Borgata opened in 2003 - Revel plans to move Atlantic City from primarily a day trip to overnight market that caters to leisure and group guests, conventioneers, and, of course, gamblers.

"It will be good for Atlantic City," said local resident Lucas Pineda, 40, a restaurant cook, as he walked past Revel last week on his way to work.

A heavy morning fog lifted to reveal the facade - covered in enough glass to fill 18 football fields. At 47 stories, it's now the city's tallest building and New Jersey's second tallest.

"It's a big casino," Pineda said, looking up. "It will bring them back."

Manne wrote: New Hampshire lawmakers will be rolling the dice this week on a proposal that could bring a multimillion-dollar casino to Rockingham Park in Salem.

Supporters and opponents of a bill to allow four casinos in the Granite State have been lobbying hard for and against passage of House Bill 593.

Last week, backers sponsored luncheons at the Legislative Office Building in Concord to make their final pitches before the expected House of Representatives vote Wednesday.

Proponents are confident the legislation will pass. Opponents are skeptical of the bill, doubting it will receive enough support.

"We feel positive about the outcome," said Rich Killion, spokesman for Millennium Gaming of Las Vegas.

GIBRALTAR and LEEDS, England, March 26, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

PokerStrategy-com, the market leading website for advice and coaching in online Poker, today announced that it believes a recent academic study could signal an early change to US laws covering online gambling.

The report, by Kahlil Simeon Philander of the University of Nevada and the renowned expert in the 'economics of Poker', Dr Ingo Fielder of the University of Hamburg, suggests that contrary to perceived opinion, online Poker actually expands the market base enjoyed by off-line casinos, and therefore drives additional business towards traditional gambling businesses.

Commenting on how his findings impact current thinking and lobbying by off-line operators, Dr Fielder said; "Our results show that off-line gambling operators should not be concerned about online Poker but instead welcome it. I am certain that this will be new information to the US Government."

The study made use of the 'Online Poker Database' at the University of Hamburg, the largest of its type in the world. This was used to track the activity of online Poker players, and it revealed that although the amount of additional revenue generated by online gambling is tiny in comparison to off-line casinos, it does increment off-line revenues, not substitute them.

Dominik Kofert, the CEO of PokerStrategy-com, said; "The research makes me hopeful that US off-line casinos will soon start to change their attitudes towards online gambling and see it as an opportunity rather than a threat."

GIA announces the release of a comprehensive global report on Casinos markets. The global market for Casinos is forecast to reach US$113 billion by the year 2017. Growth in the market would be driven by generation of incremental revenues from upcoming casino gaming facilities and the establishment of new casino gaming centers. Significant portion of revenue growth over the long term is expected to be skewed towards Asia-Pacific, following the resurgence in consumer spending, lifting of imposed restrictions, and opening of new casinos in attractive markets such as Singapore and Macau.

State Senators gave preliminary approval Monday night to legislation that would expand gambling across the state of Maryland and allow a sixth casino site in Prince George’s County.

The gambling bill overhauls the slots revenue structure to create a more favorable environment for casino owners and legalizes table games, measures that make another casino – either at National Harbor or Rosecroft Raceway in Prince George’s – more amenable to casinos already in operation or set to open soon.

The bill must pass the Senate’s vote once more before crossing over to the House of Delegates.

The online gambling industry as well as regular brick and mortar establishments depend entirely on the games being played fairly with integrity. The problem of match fixing has been kept under control by watchful industry officials as well as the gambling industry. Bets that are too good to be true usually are and are found out but at times with little consequence to the actual perpetrators.

A Euro Vegas in down-and-out Spain?

Depending on whom you ask, it could be heaven-sent or a deal with the devil.

Casino mogul Sheldon Adelson's dream to build Europe's first Las Vegas-style resort in Spain would certainly bring much needed relief to an economy lurching into another recession and struggling with sky-high unemployment.

But the millions that would rain down come with strings attached: Adelson wants Spanish laws bent so that gamblers can smoke inside the casinos and new zoning regulations allowing him to send buildings soaring above the skyline. And not everyone is thrilled about the idea of Spain hosting a European Sin City that could attract prostitution and mafia gangs -- and add gambling addiction to the woes of already desperate Spaniards.

American Idol is really getting into the good stuff as the competition is down to nine singers and the theme of this week’s round is “Their Personal Idols”, which should be interesting as we’ll get to see who inspired the people who are striving to be this year’s American Idol.

Join Bovada Sportsbook right now and bet American Idol!

One of the many fun props you can do with American Idol is to try and guess which singers will be eliminated first out of a pair of performers. This week, it is a battle of 18-year-old Hollie Cavanagh, who was born in Liverpool, England, but comes to American Idol via McKinney, Texas. Her competition is 20-year-old Tennessee native Colton Dixon, and both have auditioned for the show in the past (in seasons 10 and 11) before finally getting their big shot.

American Idol Season 11 - Who will be eliminated 1st?
Colton Dixon +160
Hollie Cavanagh -200

Neither Idol wannabe has been in the bottom three, so it’s unlikely that they’ll be there this week unless they do a horrible job (which is completely possible). Cavanagh has been picking huge songs such as “All The Man That I Need” by the late Whitney Houston and “The Power Of Love” by Celine Dion, which is courageous, but those are big shoes to fill. Dixon has chosen more understated numbers like Stevie Wonder’s “Lately”, although he did do a number on Billy Joel’s “Piano Man”.

Currently, Cavanagh is favored at -200 over Dixon at +160 in their mini-battle to stay on American Idol, and both seem to be well-liked by judges Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, as well as by the viewers. In particular, female viewers are enamored with Dixon, and that could be enough to swing the pendulum in his favor. Keep an eye on these two young talents.

The only surefire way to measure the impact of an event on any given industry is to see how the stock market reacts to it. And the gaming sector has certainly been witnessing a strong response to the latest announcement by the US Department of Justice, which states that previous legislation banning online betting only relates to the world of sports betting, and not casino games or other forms of gambling or live gambling.

The announcement makes it possible - for the first time - for states to legalise online gambling. So far, several states have expressed an interest in passing gambling legislation and getting a slice of the action.

Of course, Nevada has a gambling infrastructure in place, and plenty of legitimate, conventional casinos who can capitalize on their established name. California will start with online lottery, but plans are afoot to implement web poker at a later date. Massachusetts has established a task force specifically to evaluate the options, and Delaware is moving into casino games.

Reno businessman Paul Mathews Jr. cut right to the heart of what he and his fellow members of the governor's Gaming Policy Committee hope to address over the next five months: Nevada needs to capitalize on the rapidly changing Internet gaming market.

Mathews, a founder of the Internet technology provider Wagerworks, which was bought by International Game Technology in 2005, said Wednesday at the committee's first public hearing that online gaming offers Nevada the best available opportunity to grow its economy.

Delaware lawmakers want gamblers to be able to get lucky by looking to their computers or mobile phones to gamble. The state wants to expand gambling from its three casinos to allowing people to gamble on their home computers and mobile phones.

Ashley Mellor of Dover said she wouldn't dare gamble on her iPhone or computer.

"Not a lot of people have time to go to the casino so now if it's on your or so close to your hand on your phone it'd be super easy for people to waste their money," said Mellor.

That money may be wasted for some, but its money to gain for casinos like Dover Downs. The state's proposal says licensing fees for all three casinos would go down more than $7 million dollars a yea. But, the state would restrict how the casinos could spend the savings.
