Now it seems the State Duma of the Russian Federation are considering allowing Texas Hold'em poker in some form - most likely online gaming - as well as the possibility of relocating the designated gambling zones to more highly populated areas, according to gaming company Alsart.

An accountant that stole thousands from her employer to fund a gambling habit has been sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work. Maria Parsonage a mother of two was losing around £30 per day through internet gambling.

The 36 year old, who was trusted to pay herself an agreed wage by the employment agency, helped herself to extra cash bonuses to help settle her debts. Maria admitted to five accounts of fraud of £4,350 and was given 200 hours of unpaid work.

The magistrates in Stockport ruled that she did not have to pay the amount back due to poor financial position. Parsonage from Stockport is married with two children aged 5 and 17. She had not told her husband about the addiction until after she was arrested. The offences occurred between August and December last year and the court was told how her gambling habits went back to 2007. She used high street loans to fund her online gambling addiction initially.

The chief executive of Foxwoods Resort Casino says rising competition is forcing the Indian-run casino in eastern Connecticut to consider online gambling and other changes.

Scott Butera, in an online discussion Thursday with The Day of New London, said supply in the casino business is clearly outpacing demand. Gambling has been legalized in Massachusetts, though casinos are not expected to open for a few years. Casinos in New York also are taking a greater share of the market.

"We clearly believe that supply growth is outpacing demand," Butera said. "As a result, we will need to adjust our businesses accordingly."

He said he expects additional venues and online gambling to be a part of Foxwoods' future, though not immediately.

Butera also said Foxwoods has concluded negotiations with its creditors and is focusing on completing the transaction. He would not be more specific, citing confidentiality agreements.

For the millions of Americans who bought Mega Millions lottery tickets, the waiting is over.

The vast majority lost, as they knew they would in a gamble with mega-long odds (176 million to one). A handful won. The names of those whose tickets matched the ten winning numbers haven’t been announced yet, but state officials in Kansas, Illinois, and Maryland say winning tickets were sold there.

They’ll split what’s left of the $640 million jackpot (combined from 42 state lotteries) after Uncle Sam and state taxing authorities claim their share. Others whose $1 ticket matched some of the winning numbers could be paid lesser amounts ranging from $2 to $250,000 (where the odds still were 4 million to one).

States are the biggest winners. Lottery ticket buyers spent some $1.5 billion, most of which goes into state coffers.

The increasing popularity of betting machines helped boost first-quarter operating profits at Ladbrokes, easing investor worries after the gambling company’s drop in full-year online profits.

Ladbrokes reported a 3.9 per cent rise in operating profits to £50.4m for the three months to March 31, compared to the same period in 2011, buoyed by a 21.7 per cent rise in machines net revenue, as the company invested in a wider array of games.

Delaware's finance director is meeting with representatives of the state's gambling industry to discuss recent proposals to revise the state's gambling regulations.

Finance director Tom Cook was to meet with casino representatives Tuesday at a meeting of Delaware's Video Lottery Advisory Council at Dover Downs hotel and casino.

Markell administration officials last month proposed authorizing online gambling and allowing more onsite venues for gambling while giving financial breaks to Delaware's three existing casinos.

Officials say the money generated from the expanded gambling would allow them to eliminate the $4 million in slot machine fees paid by the existing casinos and cut their table game fees from $6.75 million to $3 million.
