Senate President John Cullerton says it's crucial that lawmakers approve his plan to regulate Internet gambling in Illinois by the end of this month.
The framework, the Chicago Democrat said, would position Illinois as a worldwide Internet gaming hub.
But, he said, Illinois lawmakers must move quickly because Congress is considering legislation that would only allow states that already have a framework in place to offer Internet gaming.

Last week the New Jersey House Committee passed its version of Senator Ray Lesniak's online gambling bill. The Senator has now announced that the Senate version of the bill, which had been passed by a Senate committee earlier, will be put before the full Senate for a vote on May 31. BETTING giant Bwin.party yesterday reported revenues of €215.9m (£172.5m) for the first quarter, up less than one per cent on the same period last year.
