PartyGaming Plc. has been busy over the past couple of weeks. They have had their lawyers working on several different areas that could be big for the company, including a lawsuit and a settlement.

The settlement negotiations are taking place between PartyGaming and the US Justice department. The company's founder has recently plead guilty to illegal Internet gambling and has forfeited $300 million.

PartyGaming has said they have no plans on paying the US anywhere near that figure. They are, however, willing to pay something to be cleared of any wrongdoing they might have been involved in.

A British bookmaker is offering odds on whether President-elect Barack Obama will legalize online gambling.

The chances of all online gambling in the US being legalized is severely restricted by the NFL’s total opposition to any form of wagering on professional football. Their somewhat illogical position - given their viewing figures massively benefit from those who watch games because they have had a bet on it - will be very hard for pro-gambling groups to overcome. Most industry experts agree that online poker, bingo and casino games are more likely to be permitted before online sports betting and that sports may never get pass the US government.

Soon we now! :dirol

Today Is the last day when the doors of the White House opened before George W. Bush. Later today they will open to let in another president, Barack Obama.

We hope that the next president will be more attentive to the problems of electronic commerce since it has already became a part of the economy that develops equally with the offline economy and even faster owing to the immediacy of all operations. The problem of the UIGEA has already interested him….

WELCOME Barack Obama

The business section of the Isle of Man Today newspaper reported this week that Internet gambling is the fastest growing sector of the Manx economy, bucking the economic slowdown trend with the prospect of new businesses and new jobs being created on the island over the next few years.

More than 360 jobs have been created in the past three years, the newspaper reports, with some of the biggest names in the online gambling industry including Microgaming, PokerStars and Playtech setting up head offices.

The report reveals that there are currently 13 licence holders with eight new licences issued in 2008 and two more operators due to go live shortly. Another 10 applications are with the Gambling Supervision Commission for approval and 10 more are at various stages of preparing an application.

Clive Hawkswood, the Chief Executive of the Remote Gaming Association ...says today: we believe that sooner or later that (legalization and regulation) will be the outcome, not least because it is in the interests of the US government and gamblers to ensure that tax revenues are retained and that operators with strong consumer protections and the best products in place are able to market themselves properly.

Mr. Hawkswood is hopeful that the Obama administration will bring a fresh and objective viewpoint to Internet gambling regulation.

The man poised to become the next leader of the Massachusetts House says he expects lawmakers to again take up the question of expanded gambling. Robert DeLeo is expected to be elected Wednesday to succeed Sal DiMasi as speaker. DiMasi led the effort to kill Gov. Deval Patrick's plan to license three casinos in Massachusetts, but DeLeo has supported some gambling measures, including allowing the state's racetracks to install slot machines.

DeLeo 19th Suffolk District consists of the town of Winthrop and all or parts of 3 precincts in Revere, includes Suffolk Downs and Wonderland Greyhound Park.

DeLeo said he'd like the House to discuss other forms of expanded gambling.

Dutch online gamblers are spending up to Euro 450 million a year on their pastime, according to a survey just completed by the research company Motivaction. The revelation will no doubt spur Dutch politicians, who would like to keep the market exclusive to the state gambling monopoly, to greater efforts.
