According to a report in The Telegraph newspaper, companies such as Partygaming, Sportingbet and PokerStars were pouring money into the UC Group to put pressure on Congress to change the current laws on gaming. They have also lobbied UK politicians in the hope that they will also help push for the legalisation of egaming in the US.

With the recession hurting economies worldwide, countries are looking into new ways to generate revenue. More and more countries are looking to online casinos as an avenue for more income. British Columbia is now the first Canadian province to legalize online gambling, and will have their online casinos, run by the B.C. Lottery Corp., up and running by March 2010.

(The move by British Columbia would be the first legalization of online casinos by a government in North America).

The Argentine government is working on plans to allow online gambling throughout the country, presidential Cabinet Chief Anibal Fernandez said Wednesday.

Fernandez neither denied nor confirmed that gambling could be used to finance soccer. :thumbsup

According to the Tico Times - Finance Ministry is planning to introduce a bill that would tax online gambling entrepreneurs who reside in Costa Rica. For so many years, online sports betting has been unregulated and untaxed in Costa Rica, making this country the mecca of online gambling worldwide. If gambling is taxed in Costa Rica, upwards of over 100 million dollars is expected to be generated.

(Changes occurs slowly in Costa Rica, so although a bill may be introduced next week, it may takes years before we see it executed).
