Conan O'Brien and Jay Leno

NBC has officially decided to bump Conan O’Brien from the Tonight Show to be replaced by Jay Leno, and O’Brien has refused to accept a later timeslot on another show. Negotiations are still ongoing this weekend but inside sources told the Wall Street Journal that some agreements have been made including O’Brien getting paid out for the remaining two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract; an amount that different sources debate, ranging from $25 million to $40 million.

This deal is also expected to permit O’Brien to work on a different network as early as this fall.

O’brien, who has clearly shown a great deal of frustration over the matter, has been cracking jokes at the expense of Leno and NBC executives since the whole debacle began. Now, most recently he has put up an ad selling the Tonight Show on Craigslit. It seems to be the real deal, in so far as it appears to actually been put up O’Brien and is obviously a joke. The Bodog Sportsbook has TV odds.

They're playing fire with the prestige of 'The Tonite Show'. If I was Conan, I'd go the hell away, start another successful show, and let Leno have his tainted slot back. This isn't how you conduct business, if you expect to have the respect of the general public, and maintain a level of respect for the hosts you've chosen.

Conan is funnier than Leno. Conan should take the money and run, though.

Boy...can NBC look any worse😟? I am not surprised at all that the leno at 10.pm didn't work....never thought it would. You would think they would have had a back up plan ready. Oh well....in the long run...I think Conan will come out on top.
