Lawmakers repeal online gambling ban

In 2006, a Bill prohibiting online gambling was passed by Congress and then signed into law by then President George W Bush.

The law imposed severe penalties on those who profited from online gambling, including companies which simply ran ads promoting gambling. The move forced many European companies like PartyGaming and 888.com out of the lucrative US market. The report says that US lawmakers are now looking to get the ban on online gambling repealed claiming that the ban has hurt trade ties with the European Union and the US. Lawmakers who support the ban say that offshore gambling sites take billions of dollars in tax revenue out of the US economy and that the online gambling sites act as a vehicle for money laundering.

Like Frankie said: if American adults want to gamble in the privacy of their home, with their own funds, nobody (especially not Congress which is gambling with trillions in tax payer money at the moment) should have the right to stop them.
