Lawrence Taylor Arrested on Rape Charge

Former New York Giant Lawrence Taylor was arguably the best linebacker in NFL history, and he certainly changed the way defense was played in the NFL with his pass-rushing skills. LT simply set the standard when it comes to now finding a linebacker who can get to the quarterback and strip him of the ball while taking him down.

Unfortunately, Taylor has become more well-known in recent years for his off-the-field problems, which is overshadowing a Hall of Fame career. And that has continued with the news that Taylor was arrested Thursday in connection with a reported rape in the New York City suburbs, according to police.

Ramapo Detective Lt. Brad Weidel said that Taylor had not been formally charged, but that police were investigating a reported rape that occurred Thursday at a hotel in Montebello.

And there is really no way to sugarcoat these charges: Taylor, 51, is charged with the rape of a 15-year-old Bronx girl. According to reports, he allegedly beat and sexually assaulted the girl – her rendezvous with Taylor at the hotel in Montebello, N.Y., was arranged by a pimp, a police source said to the New York Daily News. Apparently the teen ran away from home several days earlier.

Police said they would hold a news conference Thursday afternoon, with Taylor reportedly being charged with third-degree rape (which involves having intercourse with a minor). Taylor lives in Florida but reportedly also has a home in New Jersey. He recorded 142 sacks during his 13-year career (132.5 officially because the NFL didn’t recognize sacks his rookie year), was a 10-time Pro Bowler, the NFL Most Valuable Player in 1986 and the Defensive Player of the Year in 1981, 1982 and 1986. Taylor was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999 and also competed last year in ABC's "Dancing with the Stars." But the former Giant has had several run-ins with the law, being arrested several times on drug charges since retiring in 1993.
