Number of gamblers seeking help up

The number of people seeking help for gambling problems rose by more than 20% last year, according to the charity that provides support for compulsive players.

More than 50,000 calls and emails were received by GamCare, the advice body that is partly funded by the betting industry. Most calls were from men – some in a suicidal state as their debts piled up.

Gamcare runs both its telephone HelpLine and internet NetLine for gamblers and deals with around 100 a people day who need advice and counselling.

I believe that this is another reason why we are having problems with getting bills passed for online gambling. I know that a reply I received back from Diane Feinstein revealed that this is a reason she would NOT support our efforts recently. Her stand was that due to addictive gambling and no way to regulate it would be part of the down fall. I think she is dreaming since in the long run, if it is making money the powers that be want a piece of the action regardless of people afflected with addictions. Enough said by me.

I am sure that number will rise, again and again.
I don't have to worry about that happening to me.

I've never won enough to think that I could deposit real money
and win. Consistently. I don't have the "Durrrr" magic.:1orglaugh

People with gambling problems only have them because they lose. If they win then it is not a problem...lol

That is not true, whether you win or loss a problem is a problem. If it affects your daily life-family, work, sleep, friends etc... then it is a problem.

That is an asronomical figure... and a very sad one too...

It seems like the site should impost a limit restriction (which they do but at thousand $ levels) and notice those who go on a long term losing streak.

The only down side to that is that they make money off people like that... But people calling in suicides and whatnot... We are going to have to find a happy medium so the Government can pass a tax bill... (they will make Billions a year from this) and also a protective gambling act that will cut people off when they are on "tilt" status or are at risk for losing homes, cars, family, etc.

This will be one long and hard project though.

They probably blame it on online gambling however I've lived in 6states and everyone of them I was close to a casino so it's not just available online.
