Password hounds what IX should do.

I have posted something similar before but want to go into more depth. To start off i don't have access to passwords maybe some day i will not a big concern. Point is I am aware there is more to a forum than a freeroll every now and then.

I have suggestion as to what IX games should do to limit the constant begging for people wanting passwords.

Below are the guidlines for another site I am an active member of and have obtained freeroll passwords. I have removed the sites name, but clearly a similar thing would limit the how do i get passwords post.




"XXXX will be implementing a new program for participation in our regularly scheduled freerolls effective Mar 1. We are forming a XXXX Freeroll Club and you will need to be a member of the club to gain access to the passwords.

The purpose of the XXXX Freeroll Club is to give our contributing members a reward for being a member of the site and remaining active. Additionally, our freerolls are private games with smaller fields combined with better cash prizes than available to the general masses, so this club will help us to protect the quality of the games we provide to those that deserve them.

To become a member you will need to do the following:

1. Have 65 quality posts (subject to review prior to admittance to the club). Posting quality is just as important as quantity, and any attempt to spam the forums will result in an instant-permament ban.
2. Be an active and contributing member. You need to have a minimum 30 day posting history and have been an active and contributing member in recent months.
3. Ensure that you have added all of your poker site id's to your profile.
4. Once you have completed 1, 2 and 3 you may post your request to join the Freeroll Club in the Cardschat Freeroll Club Sign-up thread. Any requests to join made prior to completing 1, 2 and 3 above will be deleted.

Mods will review and approve the sign-ups and members will be added to the freeroll club approximately once a week. Members can be removed from the club at the mod's discretion for various reasons including inactivity, suspected password sharing, rule violations, removing or falsifying poker site id's, etc. Also, harassing mods to give you access faster will not help your request but may very well hinder it.

Now this greatly limits the password beggers. I would be very interested to here from some of the Mods or the more active members on their thoughts.

Looked over the posting guidlines after i made this post. Says not to copy stuff from other sites. Although i removed the site name i see i could possibly be banned. Sorry if this post falls within that criteria.

Their rules do keep the field for their games down and the pw thieves out -- if there are no moles among their members -- but that's because they're so restrictive by the rules they've set up. Here at ixgames it's not as nearly as demanding yet the field sizes are still not out of whack and generally we're not over run by password thieves. And that's because the admins and mods have the same sort of rules in place but don't require the same volume of posting, in combination with the poker rooms cooperating with requests for ticketed or pre-registered setups for game.

The thing that gets to people around here, for the most part, and why they keep hounding is that they think that once they get to "x" number of posts it's automatic entry to the games. No, no. It's very much like CC, just not as demanding. And the need for patience -- as has been pointed out a number of times by myself and others -- is just ignored by some people. They don't understand that it is a small staff that monitors -- and has to read for content -- ALL the postings that hit the forum.[/FONT]

Well I guess their is a reason for everything. I would guess the admins here are familiar with how CC does things.
When i come on here i want to see whats new. And this constant pleas for passwords is rather annoying is all I'm saying.

If i do get password access i will let people know how many posts I have and how long it took. Though i doubt doing that will slow any of them up.

I think the current system is working fine. The only problem I've seen is the lack of participation in the freerolls. Last night, on FT, there were only 2 active members on my table. We stole blinds for 1 hour and then played poker. It would be nice if FT would implement the UB system and fold them out after a rotation.

[FONT="Franklin Gothic Medium"]This is recurring problem, lcid. Everybody screamed, begged, pleaded to be allowed in, now up to 1/2 of them don't bother showing up. And, if they wanted to be so kind as to unregister, there is no way for them to do that as there is no such button in the tourney lobby. And as they are not removed from the game after the 1st blind level -- a la UltimateBet -- we just have to grind there stacks down. At least until those who are consistently NOT showing up are taken off the pre-registration list submitted by ixgames to FTP. . .[/FONT]

I do not believe in a set number of posts and the reason being that a new member will spam to get to the magic number and then leave. An active member to me is one that logs in on a regular basis as well as starting and replying to posts that generates interest where other members are involved.

If a player is pre-registered to a game at Full Tilt Poker, they can unregister but can not get back in as a password is not used.

You missed the part about quality posts. In other words a post such as "I agree" or some other one liner would not be qualify as one of the 65.

But hey i didn't expect I would change anything here anyway. I've learned to ignore the "how do i get password" posts. If they want them they can put the effort forth, and most likely learn something along the way.

Went to the lobby to unregister but, much to my surprise, no such button was to be found. So instead, I sat in, played not too well and eventually busted. But at least I showed up. . .

So, right now, even if some of the players who know they won't/can't be there wanted to, they can't remove themselves from the starting list. Maybe if the contacted FTP support they could, but even I don't expect them to go to those lengths. . .[/FONT]

I have just come across this post so sorry if it's abity old news by now but I just thought I would say that I agree with SycoSteve that the requirements set up by this site are OK and a lot less restrictive than certain other unnamed (ok named 😄) sites
The site reffered to in the first post is renowned for being extremely unpopular after many players have found them quite unreasonable in their requirements.

Not a good example at all

Keeping it short:

We are still in the beginning of the evolution of running private events and setting rules.

But the example from original poster is where this will land in the end, im 100% sure of in some way.

Because of the massive exploitment of poker freerolls and tournaments on the internet rules must be set to maintain some sort of quality in a community like ixgames.

Not only a set amount of xx posts, because we have already experienced that players will take advantage of this alone.

Making the poker tournaments contain more quality and exclusivity than just being a freeloaders paradise, but not with insane requirements. It just needs some planning and a well-thought strategy --- what is good and what is bad for the community.

But in the end we will listen to the community and having an open discussion with the active members.

In the end, once the rules/requirements are clarified for the future everyone will have to make up their own mind as to how/whether they will continue here. As I am fond of saying, it's your playground so you get to set the rules. If someone doesn't like them -- myself included -- they can always look for another playground. . .[/FONT]

I dont want to get in an argument over which one is better here. However, the other site gets way more traffic and much more posts and responses. That doesn't translate to unpopular in my book. Have you checked it out at all?

Now if it is unpopular for people that only want passwords and don't want to put in time, then yes i could see why it is unpopular in that sense.

Good to know sounds to me like you are heading that way then. It doesn't seam like extreme requirements to me apparently it is to others.

No I did not miss it and the magic number would be 65 posts, at which point the member will whinge that they have made 65 posts whether it is quality or not. They will whinge and then write off the forum as misleading, too hard, controlled etc. It is good in theory but more work for admin and mods to control and then determine who has quality posts and who does not on such a large forum as the one mentioned in your post. On a smaller forum where all topics could be read by people in charge, it would be more effective.

Did not say it would not work, it is a difficult thing to implement being fair but also rewarding the active members without discriminating newer members who may turn out to be one who supports the forum in other ways
