On September 30, 2006, the US Senate passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. You may have heard of it; it's been on the news quite often. What does this law do? Why was it put into effect? What does it mean for you, the player?
....Here's some things this law does NOT do: ......- It does not make any type of online gambling illegal. Online gambling may still be illegal at the state level (check your local laws), but it is not illegal on a federal level.
- It does not effect the players. The law refers only to operators of online gambling businesses, as well as companies which allow money transfers to be made to the online gambling businesses.
However, due to this law, several major online poker rooms have withdrawn themselves from the US market. Other rooms have remained open to US customers. US Players accept US customers.
Basically what this law means for the player is that it's become more difficult to deposit money to fund your account. They're already working on ways around this, but that's the only real change. Beyond that, it's business as usual.
