Bet24, the online gaming operator sold to Unibet earlier this week for €13.5 million has said that it will be rebranded as part of the move.
This means Bet24 Poker, which had been building up a strong team of online poker pros in recent months, will be subsumed into Unibet Poker, moving from the Ongame network to Microgaming.
Bet24 said in a statement yesterday, “The transaction is subject to regulatory approval and is expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter of 2012.
“Unibet has confirmed that it intends to integrate the Bet24 business into its existing operations by re-branding Bet24’s products and services and migrating Bet24’s customers to its own platform.”
The move will come as a blow to U.S. gaming operator Shufflemaster which agreed to buy the Ongame network last month for €29.5 million ahead of expected online poker regulation in the U.S. over the coming years.

New Jersey's Internet gambling bill is scheduled to go up for a vote in the New Jersey Senate on May 31, later than sponsor Raymond Lesniak had hoped. The delay will push back his predicted Sept. 1 start date for online poker in the Garden State. Lesniak still says he expects online poker to be up and running in New Jersey "sometime in the fall."
Lesniak said last month that the bill would pass through both houses in mid-April. The bill was passed by the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee on April 3. The holdup, according to Lesniak, is that many of his colleagues in the legislature are going on vacation over the next month.
One year ago, on April 15, 2011, the poker world was rocked when federal authorities unsealed an indictment against online poker’s big three: PokerStars, Full Tilt Poker and Absolute Poker. The charges were based on the Illegal Gambling Business Act of 1955 and the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 and alleged that the companies used fraudulent methods to circumvent federal law and trick banks into processing payments.

It was one hundred years ago that the unsinkable ship sank. Thousands of people were affected by this immense tragedy and the perils of the sea and nature were burned into mans awareness once again. Let us not forget the seriousness of the unpredictable randomness of events that can cause hardship for many, and the need for safety and regulations that are adhered to. The tragedy of the Titanic should be remembered with reverence.
By far not as historically significant was the US Department of Justice’s crackdown on online poker and that move’s far reaching effects. The so called ‘Black Friday’ happened one year ago and that year has seen some big changes in the online poker world with many operators running for cover or the European jurisdictions.

Betonline has temporarily shut down their online poker client. Luckily this is due to maintenance and will hopefully only last a few days, although support will not give a timeframe (very odd). Anyway, here are a couple alternatives I would recommend at the moment.
Update 1: Betonline expects a minimum of 3 days downtime.
Update 2: Betonline has changed software providers from Action Poker to an unannounced one. Not sure if it will be Mac accepted.
