Last week, Frank (D-Mass.) - introduced two poker bills that are designed to thwart the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act, which has been haunting online players in the United States since late 2006, and legalize and regulate online poker.

Frank's been fighting this battle on UIGEA since it came out and would rather have the government taxing and regulating online poker instead of banning it.

(The bills may not make it to the House floor until September for a vote).

Online poker is the fact that the best poker hands often do not win the pot. If you have spent any time watching the World Poker Tour or World Series of Poker you will quickly find that, time after time, the weaker poker hands often beat seemingly power poker hands.

Big poker hands are great weapons if used properly. If used improperly they are a way to ruin. Just think of how many times a player had a hand like pocket Aces or pocket Kings and lost a big pot because he let inferior hands into the pot cheaply.

Swedish poker players are elated by a decision earlier this week by the Court of Appeal in Gothenburg that declares poker tournaments in the country generally legal.

Within days of the new ruling a private operator had organised a poker tournament in Stockholm with more than a hundred players. 😄

Who ever said that reading doesn't pay? In this case, reading can give you the chance to play for a $10,000 seat to the 2009 WSOP Main Event. To the winner of an exclusive Newsletter WSOP Freeroll for the first 5,000 newsletter readers to sign up, Bodog is awarding a T$270 seat in a Main Event Semifinal.

With as many as four $12,000 WSOP packages guaranteed each Sunday at 4:35pm ET in those Semifinal events, getting a free pass gives online poker players a shot at poker immortality in Las Vegas this summer.

However, the winner of the Newsletter WSOP Freeroll isn't the only one who can walk away with a little something for their efforts. Those who finish second through ninth (final table) will receive T$29 to enter either a ‘Main Event Last Chance' or a ‘Main Event Quarterfinal' and places 10 to 500 win T$5.50 for a ‘Main Event Qualifier' tournament.

To register for the Newsletter WSOP Freeroll, open or download the Bodog Poker Client then login with your Bodog account information. Then, click on the "Main Lobby" tab and click the "Scheduled Tournament" tab. From there click the "Private" tab and select "Newsletter WSOP Freeroll." Click "Register" and the password is "newsletter."

An e-mail sent to members of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) late Friday night offered the prospects of playing in the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event for renewing or upgrading to a premium membership. The seat is worth $10,000.

The offer is available until Midnight ET on June 15th and doles out one seat into the world’s most prestigious poker tournament. Last year, a total of 6,844 players entered the Main Event, which saw its final table delayed until November for the very first time in order to coincide with its airing on ESPN. In the end, it came down to a battle of Europe, as Danish poker pro Peter Eastgate bested Russian sensation Ivan Demidov, becoming the youngest WSOP Main Event Champion ever at age 22 and banking $9.1 million.

In states such as Florida, where poker is already legal, Internet poker players would still benefit from increased gambling options. If the federal government deems poker a skill game, it would be exempt from the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act that passed Congress in 2006.

The law cast a cloud over the legality of Internet gaming, and prompted some websites to no longer accept U.S. players.

Poker advocates now feel their skill message is gaining steam. The Florida Legislature this month approved higher-stakes poker at the state's Indian casinos and parimutuels. During the legislative session, skill was mentioned as one reason lawmakers should allow higher stakes - with the idea that more chips in players' hands allow for skill to play a larger role.

The state must still reach a final gambling deal with the Seminole Tribe before the new poker rules take effect.

He said that if he didn’t win at least four million dollars this year that he’d retire from poker and wouldn’t be seen in 2010. That’s a tall order for even the great Scotty Nguyen, but there are a few more 10K events and a special 40K anniversary event made for high rollers like Scotty. He won’t necessarily need to win a bracelet to accomplish this feat, but it will make it a lot easier if he does.

He’s been one of the best players over the last year, winning over a million dollars in multi-table tournaments since his $1.9 million cash in the H.O.R.S.E. event championship last July. And we know he’s going to play a busy schedule of events as he tries to compile $4 million in a month and a half. Win a seat to the WSOP with Bodog Poker now.
