Online poker in Italy has gone up from 188 million Euros in 2008 to 200 million Euros in 2009. That's a significant increase just in online poker for one year.

(Italian online gambling is restricted to Italian gamblers on *internal* networks. Operators seeing the opportunity to expand have begun to lobby the government to open the closed system to international operators).

The World Series of Poker continue to grow in popularity, primarily due to the fact that online poker players engage in single table tournaments all the time. Attracting a young field of 999 players, to win Event 22, the $1,500 no-limit hold 'em shootout, a player would need to win three single table tournaments to claim the title. Jeff Carris, a 23-year-old professional poker player from Wadsworth, Ohio, outplayed his opponents and won his first WSOP bracelet and $313,673.

After seizing over $30 million in online poker player winnings, the Internet gambling issue once again has caught the attention of the nation.

The government has interfered with many people's money at a time when economically every dollar is needed to survive. Already protest groups have been formed and are planning to have their voices heard in Washington.

Mike Eise - the 30-year old man raked in over $639,000 at a World Series of Poker event in Las Vegas this week.

Mike Eise prevailed in a field of 2,641 to win the three-day tournament. The tourney is a preliminary to the $10,000 buy-in main event, which begins July 3.

Poker fans in Israel are eagerly awaiting a High Court of Justice hearing, scheduled to be held on Monday, which will discuss a petition filed by the Israel Poker Association against the Israel Police. In the petition, the association asked the court to issue a declaratory order allowing it to hold an annual tournament of Texas Hold'em, the most popular version of the card game in Israel and around the world.

The association also hopes that authorizing the tournament will lead to legalizing the game in Israel.

Poker pro Jeffrey Lisandro became the third dual bracelet winner of the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) on Saturday night, winning the $10,000 buy-in World Championship of Seven Card Stud High-Low Split Eight or Better for $431,000.

Online poker room - BODOG - has opened up betting lines for the Ante Up for Africa event held as part of the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP). The tournament kicks off on July 2nd and is expected to last five hours.

The event will become part of ESPN’s coverage of the 2009 WSOP, joining the $40,000 buy-in tournament commemorating the Series’ 40th running, the Champions Invitational, and the Main Event. Viewers can tune into ESPN on Tuesday, August 11th to catch all of the action from the Ante Up for Africa fundraiser. The charity was founded by “Celebrity Apprentice” runner-up Annie Duke, actor Don Cheadle, and Norman Epstein to generate money and awareness for victims of the crisis in Darfur. It raised over $2 million in its first two years after being founded in 2006. Duke raised over $730,000 for Refugees International on *Celebrity Apprentice* after finishing second in the reality series to comedian Joan Rivers.

Over thirty of the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) State Directors as well as half a dozen professional poker players will travel to Washington D.C during National Poker Week, held from July 19th to 25th, to meet with members of Congress and ask them to support legislation such as Congressman Frank's recently introduced bill, H.R 2267, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act of 2009.

(The PPA will also be working with leading technology providers to host a 'tech demo' that will highlight the ability to regulate online poker through programmes to verify age and ensure fairness of play, amongst other things).
