I hope Obama does the right thing
There seems to be a good deal of positive momentum for legalized and regulated online poker in the United States right now. The country needs the money, and many are coming to the realization that the UIGEA is an extremely flawed piece of legislation.

The UIGEA is a piece of garbage, but the regulators did the best they could do with it. It’s an un-funded mandate. It’s a requirement that banks spend money for nothing and that’s not what the government should be doing right now, partly because we’re in a financial crisis. It’s also personal intrusion. The regulations would have been killed last summer, but the Republicans decided to make it into a political issue.

There will be even more support for the legislation of online poker in the coming weeks.

Face the Ace debuts on August 1st. The show is scheduled to air at 9pm on Saturdays and has seven shows scheduled for its inaugural season. The concept of the show is quite unique and is the first poker show of this type to air on television. A contestant will choose from among four doors with a Full Tilt poker professional behind each door. The player will then play whichever pro poker player was behind the door in a heads up poker match. If he beats the poker pro, or the "Ace" as they call it, he will have the choice to take home $40,000 or chance it and play another "Ace" for a chance at a bigger payout.

Italy PokerStars players noticed on Monday that they were no longer able to play on the international PokerStars.com website. When trying to visit PokerStars.com from an Italian IP you will be redirected to the Italian version which is PokerStars.it.

At PokerStars.it the Italian players will only be able to play against other players from Italy and they are not able to access any of the cash games that they are used to playing at the international PokerStars.com.

(The Italian government have been negotiated with the EU about what restrictions are possible for online poker. On the 27th of July the European Union accepted the Italian governments request for a monopoly).

Only tournament play is allowed, those poker sites operating in Italy will only be allowed to accept Italian tax payers as poker players on their site, the servers of the site must be located in Italy and every single tournament held has to be approved by the Italian government. :helpme

Surviving a field of 439 players - many of them pro players - this week was Manchester, UK poker pro Matt Perrins (21), who won himself Euro 200 000 in taking down the Venice stop on the PokerStars.it Italian Poker Tour.

(Next stop for the tour is San Remo, where the action starts on August 28th, with qualifying satellites running online at Pokerstars).

Legislation that would allow online poker and other games of skill while bringing up to $3bn in state revenue was introduced last night to the US Senate.

The Poker Players Alliance (PPA), the leading poker grassroots advocacy group, commended Senator Menendez for introducing the Act:

"Today's action by Senator Menendez is yet another powerful step towards protecting Internet freedom, protecting consumers and protecting online poker," said PPA Chairman and former Senator Alfonse D’Amato.

Since winning eight gold medals last year, Michael Phelps has done everything from host Saturday Night Live to gain notoriety for a photo of him with a bong.

But now there's something new for him to add to the list, not far from where he won all that hardware: Play in the Asian Poker Tour.

The Asian Poker Tour, whose next event is Aug. 12-23 at gambling-crazy Macau, sent Phelps a letter inviting him to play next weekend, according to a press release.

As if it were ordained by fate, online poker player "potroast" won Bodog Poker's Sunday $100,000 Guaranteed online poker tournament last night. Of course, naming yourself after a traditional Sunday dinner meal does not make you a lock for a Sunday major, just gives us a little material to work with for the write-up.

To make it to his first $100k final table, "potroast" had to beat out a field of 477 players, and then tackle a final table that included Bodog regulars "ImTheJackal" and "timosy" in order to take home the $25,000 first-place prize, his largest cash to date on Bodog.

Here are the full final table payouts and placings:

1. potroast - $25,000 (Potroast)
2. kingkai - $15,000 (kingkai)
3. mitch 21 - $9,500
4. rjrat84 - $7,000
5. ImTheJackal - $5,500 (Aaron_Hacker)
6. DLetterman - $4,500
7. EgonTowst - $3,500
8. timosy - $2,200
9. halincandenza - $1,700
