The Ultimate Bet-sponsored Aruba Poker Classic is only a month away and the online poker room recently announced a new incentive to persuade players to take a Caribbean vacation come October. As part of the tournament festivities celebrating the site’s tenth anniversary and the eighth year of the Aruba event, Ultimate Bet added a ten-handed Sit & Go in which the winner will walk away with a brand new Mercedes Benz ML-350 sport utility vehicle.

For players interested in participating in the Mercedes-Benz tournament, there are a couple of different ways to earn a seat. Ultimate Bet will be hosting a $200 + $15 online satellite at 9:30PM ET on Sunday September 27th that will award seats to the top five finishers. In addition to winning an entry into the live event, the five satellite winners will also receive $2,000 to go towards travel expenses. This is an open event available to every customer on Ultimate Bet.

Congress returns to session today for what figures to be an important few months in determining the future of online poker.

The most interesting bill to watch will be Barney Frank's Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act, which figures to undergo intense discussion after lying dormant since being assigned to the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security in June. (The bill currently has 54 co-sponsors, a number that shows support but, looked at more closely, also shows that the legislation will not pass without significant changes).

Even as the gambling industry takes a hit during the economic downturn. According to a report from the American Gaming Association, 7% of respondents listed poker as a favorite casino game, with roulette and craps both at 3%. However, slot machines at 62% and blackjack at 21% took up the lion's share of popularity.

According to a press release by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, over $22 million dollars has been returned to players who had been affected by the actions of certain users who had been cheating their way to being in the money. Ultimate Bet In January of 2008, players reported "statistically anomalous results" while engaging in games against certain Ultimate Bet players. An investigation was launched, and the findings were astounding and unprecedented in the online poker community. The commission is the licensor to Tokwire Enterprises, the owners of Ultimate Bet, which is sponsored by none other than the Poker Brat himself, Phil Hellmuth. Tokwire was fined $1.5 million dollars and was required to disburse the $22 million dollars back to players.

Russ hamilton was declared the mastermind of that cheating scandal. whatever happened to him? (financial wise. he stole 66 million didn't he?) I heard he was inducted into the poker players alliance. Doesn't the PPA stand for honesty and integrity in the game of poker? I don't see how russ hamilton lives up to honesty and integrity.

The Kahnawake Gaming Commission today issued an 11-page document confirming that cheating occurred at popular online poker room UltimateBet, naming the accounts used to fleece UB players out of their bankrolls, and stating that the individual who ultimately bears responsibility for that cheating is 1994 WSOP Main Event winner Russ Hamilton.
