The Kahnawake Gaming Commission has finished its investigation into the cheating scandal at online poker room Ultimate Bet and released its findings. According to the report by the gambling regulators, the owner of the Ultimate Bet site, Tokowiro, was fined $1.5 million, as well as forced to pay restitution of over $22 million to players whose poker outcomes were determined to be involved in compromised hands.

Former world champion Russ Hamilton is named as responsible for the crooked play, with suspect Internet provider addresses linking repeatedly to his name. A total of thirty-one individuals, whose identities are not disclosed, are included in the report's list of suspects.

September 21st sees Everest Poker launch the second installment of their most popular promotion ever, Live The Dream. Live The Dream offers 10 real poker players the chance to become sponsored professionals for a year with the chosen 10 travelling the world, playing in the biggest events and a $100,000 sponsorship deal to their name.

Everest Poker does not sponsor big name players but instead invests in their own players, allowing them to develop and become professionals on the world stage in their own right. Last year saw three of the Live The Dream (Voitto Rintala, Steven van Zadelhoff, & Kim Wooka) become established members of the world poker circuit and as a result they were promoted to full members of Team Everest. If you want to be next on that list head to Everest Poker

Manne wrote: Congress returns to session today for what figures to be an important few months in determining the future of online poker.

The most interesting bill to watch will be Barney Frank's Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act, which figures to undergo intense discussion after lying dormant since being assigned to the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security in June. (The bill currently has 54 co-sponsors, a number that shows support but, looked at more closely, also shows that the legislation will not pass without significant changes).

Online player Ryan ‘g0lfa’ D’Angelo recently became the third player in the World Championship of Online Poker history to win multiple bracelets. Ryan won his first bracelet on September 9th and earned his second bracelet on September 14th.

The first player to earn multiple bracelets at the WCOOP was online player ‘spawng’ when he won in 2005 and 2006. Kyle ‘kwob20’ Bowker earned two bracelets that same year and became the first player to win multiple events in the same tournament series.

(To date, Ryan has earned over $730,000. This amount includes his recent foray in the 2008 WSOP where he finished in third place during event #48. Ryan seems to be well as on his way to having a successful career in the game of poker).

The Villanova student won his first bracelet in event no. 2 and banked $53,410, in what was a razz tournament. This time around, he needed all five disciplines of poker and received nearly five times the payout, earning $252,350.

The underage pro wasted no time, picking apart Ozenc “ozenc” Demir in the stud rounds and soon found himself with the lead. By the time the tournament reached stud eight-or-better, Kelly had all but locked up the victory thanks to complete and utter heads-up domination.

With his victory, Kelly became the third player this series and fifth all-time, to win two WCOOP bracelets.

Phil Ivey (on the 2009 WSOP Main Event final table)

Tom McEvoy

Daniel Negreanu

Mike Sexton

There are currently 37 members in the Poker Hall of Fame, which was established in 1979.

Players who receive at least a 75 percent vote will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in a ceremony Nov. 7 at the Rio Hotel -- during the dinner break of the Main Event Final Table of the World Series of Poker.

To be eligible for nomination, a person must have played poker against acknowledged top competition, played for high stakes, played consistently well, stood the test of time and, for nonplayers, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game, with positive and lasting results.

(Thirty-seven players have been named to the Hall of Fame since the first induction in 1979).
