The World Series of Poker continues to expand in terms of attendance and prize money, and it looks like even the bracelets are ready to do the same

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the WSOP, a new bracelet will be awarded to each winner of the 57 official tournaments, and for the first time ever no two will be alike.

On Tilt Designs Pty. Ltd., is the company who has entered into a multi-year agreement to create these new bracelets.

On Tilt will have branded apparel, headwear and accessories to cover poker players along with a sponsorship of WSOP bracelets for the Las Vegas and European events, for which On Tilt hired famed jewelry designer Steve Soffa.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be tasked with creating the foremost trophy for poker players worldwide,” said Soffa. “We have been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the WSOP gold bracelets and we look forward to unveiling them to the world on May 28 at the Rio.”

Also, a special bracelet is being made by Soffa for the Main Event winner, the $50,000 Poker Player’s Championship and for the first time in history, the Ladies Championship.

"It’s an honor to work with this team and have the WSOP play a role in launching a new lifestyle brand.” said WSOP VP Ty Stewart. “They are passionate about poker, experts in their craft, and we’re confident the masterpiece they are hand-crafting will elevate the prestige of anyone fortunate enough to win one.”

Players have been complaining about the quality of the bracelets, most notably Patrik Antonius, who said in an interview that they are a piece of shit...

The World Series of Poker is exactly one week away and Bodog Poker is giving its players plenty of chances to qualify for the prestigious tourney.

For as little as $1 or with a direct satellite buy-in you could win a $12,000 WSOP Main Event prize Package that covers your flight, spending money, and of course your $10,000 Main Event buy-in. Oh, and expect to be invited to one of Bodog's hot Bodog Parties in Vegas and have an endless amount of swag.

All you have to do is win. Team Bodog has already secured 21 members, you can find the current qualifiers on the WSOP Qualifiers page. They used one of the three ways to get in:

* The Cheapseat Way: Yes, it's been done before. Win a seat in the WSOP Main Event by first buying into a cheapseat for $1 and winning. Then win the Main Event Quarter Final, the Main Event Semi Final, and finally the Main Event Satellite. Four rounds — that's how NBA Championships are won — you have the skills, it can be done.
* The Mid-Range Way: For just $55 you can get a bye like your were the 2010 New Orleans Saints. Pay the $55 for the Main Event Semi Final, win, then you just have to win the Main Event Satellite next — and you're in.
* The Fast Way: How do the New York Yankees win the World Series all the time? They buy their way in. Do the same by paying $500 to get right into the Main Event Satellite. Like the Yankees if you're confident you can win it all and get that $12,000 prize package, the $500 is well worth it.

All these tourneys are available right now for you to compete in. The next Main Event Satellite tourney is on Monday, May 24 at 8:35 p.m. ET.

There was this one chump talking a whole bunch of smack the entire game about how he is basically God's gift to poker....well long story short the game winds up with me and him heads up, me up by about 100 chips in total and on the button dealt AA. I push all-in knowing full well he's going to call me, which he does. Flop comes down K-K-A and the smack talk from his end ratchets up a notch. Turn: 9d and he's laughing his butt off. No sooner did I say it's not over till it's over do I get my fourth Ace on the river. No I won no actual money, but I had the satisfaction of hearing his controller fly across the room into something with his mic still attached lmao.

What about you guys? Best wins, horrible heartwrenching losses? Share away!

Omaha. . .a game of lots of fun and lots of frustration at the same time. I enjoy a game myself when I can break away from NLHE and am taking occasional shots at H/L also, which can be even more fun and more frustrating! 😄

Omaha is a game I am just now beginning to to tinker with. It has been a tough learning experience. Good starting hands tend to be the key here. I do much better folding all the marginal stuff and NOT chasing when the flop is not giving me good odds on developing the nuts.

After the much anticipated hearing this week by the House Ways and Means Committee on tax proposals relating to the online poker and gambling industry, one thing is clear – support for the legalization of this industry is strong but there is still a long way to go before it comes a reality.

Panels in Wednesday’s hearings comprised Barney Frank and Congressman Jim McDermott, both who have introduced legislation that pushes towards the legalization and regulation of internet poker and gambling. Another panel was made up of the IRS and Treasury. Oddly missing were representatives from the US banking industry.

The hearing was held to discuss McDermott’s Internet Gambling Regulation and Tax Enforcement Act which calls for taxation on internet gambling deposits. According to HR 4976, the United States stands to make over $70 million over the time period of a decade if this becomes a reality.

The hearing also discussed the many jobs that could be created if internet gambling was legalized in the US, with numbers being put at over 30,000.

All in all, the hearing heard that legalizing the industry would clearly have a positive effect on the country at large, especially its social systems, and especially since most of the money was leaving the country anyway to offshore poker and casino sites.

“Today’s witnesses clearly articulated why Congress should give fair consideration to regulating online gambling activity as a way to protect Americans, stimulate the economy by creating tens of thousands of new jobs, and profit from the collection of tens of billions of otherwise lost revenue,” said Safe and Secure Gambling Initiative rep Michael Waxman.

All in all, the House Ways and Means Committee hearing spread over nearly 3 hours, where interesting debates and opinions were heard.

It remains to be seen what – if anything – results from the hearing.

South Africa is gearing up for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, and it appears poker is doing the same.

A total of 48 players representing the USA, England, Vietnam, Greece, Brazil, Australia, Israel and China gathered at the Golden Nugget for the inaugural World Team Poker event yesterday with $400,000 and the chance to be the best poker country in the world. The format was shootout rounds of NL Hold'em, Limit Hold'em and PLO with the top two players from each of the five round one tables advancing to the final.

Although it would probably never work that way in soccer, China came out on top.

The Chinese team of Johnny Chan, David Chiu, Maria Ho, Rich Zhu, Chau Giang, Winifred Yu and Derek Cheung took home $300,000 for the win after a 19 hour session.

Vietnam was the first team eliminated from the final table followed by Australia and Greece. When England went down as well, that left Brazil and China to fight it out for the title. The South Americans went into heads up play with a 3 to 1 chip advantage but couldn't stay alive against the Chinese. China eventually sealed the win versus Brazil.

The next Main Event Satellite tourney to get your buy-in for the World Series of Poker is on Monday, May 24 at 8:35 p.m. ET.

He argued that poker is not gambling, however. Instead, he says that poker is a game of skill. It's about wit, not luck.

Tzvetkoff is charged with bank fraud conspiracy, money laundering, gambling conspiracy and money laundering conspiracy and faces up to 75 years in prison.
I'm always perplexed by this argument. There is nothing about gambling, by definition, that requires there to be a luck element. It doesn't matter if the game is chess or roulette, if you wager on the outcome, it's gambling.

According to Congressman Blumenauer in his statement, the United States is missing out on billions of dollars at the exact time that needs to create employment and control its deficits. According to current estimates, over $100 billion is spent by US online gamblers at offshore sites – money which could definitely benefit the country.

Blumenauer stated that the restriction on internet poker and gambling was nothing less than hypocritical. One the one hand we have the government prohibiting a form of entertainment on the internet, claiming that gambling has a detrimental effect on the population. Yet, in the same breath, the government exempts horse racing, lotteries and fantasy football from the rules of the UIGEA, he said

Australian businessman and head of a company that has processed over $500 million in online poker transactions has pleaded not guilty in his case against the US Department of Justice. Daniel Tzvetkoff hasn’t taken the usual route of accepting the charges and bargaining with the US government for his freedom, instead he has opted to fight the case and clear his company’s name. Tzvetkoff is basing his case on the fact that poker isn’t actually gambling, especially not in the traditional sense of the word like blackjack or roulette can be classed, and therefore he hasn’t processed any illegal payments. So far the US Department of Justice has reached settlements with Party Gaming and a Canadian payment processor, as well as successfully bringing charges against the CEO of BetOnSports.

Online poker players plan to rally on the steps of the state Supreme Court Thursday afternoon to protest the law that makes on-line gambling a felony.

Inside, the director of the state's Poker Players Alliance is making his case before the Supreme Court. They're fighting the 2006 state law that makes online poker players felons. Opponents of the law say it makes no sense because it's legal in any poker room across the state, but not online.

What's worse, they say, is it puts online poker plays in the same category as those caught with child porn, or heroin.

"I'm completely appalled," said Lee Rousso, Poker Players Alliance Washington state director. "Of course, I mean, we're regular, salt of the earth citizens we just happen to like to play America's favorite game in the privacy of our own homes and we should be able to do that."

Those rallying on the steps say they should have the freedom to spend their money how they want.

"Everybody in America should have the choice of where to spend their money," said Tom Myers. "That's why we're in America - the reason why I want that choice is because if I want to sit on my couch and spend $100, I should have that right, it's my $100."

It will take the state Supreme Court anywhere from 6-9 months to hand down a ruling, but Rousso says the losing side will likely appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court because he thinks it's a cutting edge issue across the country

Thousands of amateur poker players have crowded Las Vegas hotel rooms this week in the hopes of becoming the next big poker personality. Along with the fame that comes with doing well in a WSOP event, players also are looking to cash in with some big winnings.

The first tournament, which begins in just a few hours, will be the Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em event. The buy-in for this tournament is $500, and it is a two day event. The big tournament of the day, The Poker Player's Championship, begins at 5PM and carries a $50,000 buy-in.

For the past decade, the rate of people who gamble online has increased dramatically. While it has remained very popular, it is in fact illegal to gamble online if you are in the United States. Unfortunately for the US, controlling the rate of online gambling is next to impossible. While the country has avoided making it legal in the past, it now appears that those citizens in California could soon gamble legally online.

Senator Rod Wright is leading a senate committee that is determined to make California the fist state to legalize online poker playing. While this will prove to be a very controversial move, it could be a great way for the state to earn some extra money. Presently, the State of California has a very significant budget shortfall through the end of 2011. While the budget is large, adding excess taxes and revenues from a new gambling site could cut down on the shortfall.

While this appears to be a good way for the state to make some money, the new plan is sure to run into some opposition. Presently, federal law prohibits people from gambling online, but the government does allow states to set up their own legalized games to earn extra money.

Another concern over legalized gambling in California is that it could violate agreements the state has with Native Americans. Presently, agreements in place with casinos located on Indian reservations prevent competition. Others are concerned that legalizing online poker could lead to a domino effect which across the country.
