You may think your opponent has the brain of a monkey, but it turns out that capuchins recognize the value of poker chips. A study at Italy's Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies used poker chips as part of a group of items that served as tokens for food. Monkeys were to select a smaller quantity of items (like chips) to receive a larger reward. They soon figured out, though, that big piles of items meant less food and learned to use smaller amounts of the chips and other items strategically.
There's probably a lesson there for many players about small bets building to a bigger bankroll, but I'm too busy looking at pictures of monkeys on the internet to figure it out.

Tribal police at the Mowhawk reservation in northern New York state arrested Anthony Laughing of Massena for running an illegal poker room. Gambling is legal on the reservation, but only at the Akwesasne Casino. However, let's not think these guys were Serpico or anything: Laughing was running the poker room from a place called the All-In Lounge.

Niall Farrel's the chip leader going into Day 2, who upped his 15,000 starting stack by over 400%, ending the first eight blind levels with 86,500. Special notice should be paid to Liverpool British Masters champ Mark McClusky; he had a minor infection that spread to his heart but that didn't stop him from making an appearance after he won his qualifying seat online.
Day 1B is underway as we speak and even more pros and wannabes are going to work their way up to Day 2's festivities. Last year's winner, David La Ronde, earned nearly a quarter of a million pounds for beating 213 players and while this year's field may be smaller, the action is certainly just as hot.
