Randal Flowers has won the Festa Al Lago stop on the World Poker Tour, defeating a field of 335 players and earning $831,500 for his first-place finish. At only 22 years old, he's become the youngest person to hold multiple World Poker Tour titles. In addition to the cash payout, Flowers won a bracelet from both the World Poker Tour and the Bellagio and has earned entry into the World Poker Tour World Championship.
Comparing this victory to the World Poker Tour Spanish Championship, Flowers said: "It's much sweeter. It’s double the prize and it’s a lot more attention. Hopefully winning number two will help me get some recognition. Nobody even knew I won in Barcelona."
Flowers already has $2,221,562 in online winnings and with this victory, his live tournament earnings have leaped to $1.8 million. It was by no means an easy victory, however. He nearly found himself railbirding just before the final table after pushing all-in holding K-10 versus Michael Benvenuti's pocket kings. He was saved by a straight that was made on the river and that gave him enough chips to be the clear leader when final table of six players was determined.
When Benvenuti and Flowers met again at the showdown, play lasted less than 20 hands, which is remarkable for an event like the World Poker Tour. Flowers raised to 330,000 on the final hand while holding 9c3d and was called by Benvenuti. The flop hit: 9s6c5s and Flowers tossed in 420,000. Benvenuti went all-in and Flowers called. Unfortunately, Benvenuti's flush draw and gunshot didn't stand a chance once the turn hit: 4c and with a River that affected no one, Flowers won the championship.

Of course, while these players moved to the top of the heat, there were plenty of casualties who hit the rails as the field was narrowed down to 146 by the end of play. Included in this group were Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss, Anton Wigg, Luca Pagano, Faraz Jaka and WSOPE main event finalist Roland de Wolf.
While the Main Event was kicking off, the last few rounds of the previous events were winding down. A huge moment was Annette Obrestad's domination of the £5,000 heads-up event. Obrestad kept her typical cool and walked away with a very nice £120,000 for her dedicated play.
