An online poker player by the name of Scott Crespo is attempting to recover poker losses he's incurred over some 700 tournaments, suing six top online poker players. The lawsuit is being brought about because of an Illinois law that allows a player to recover gambling losses if they can prove they have been cheated. Crespo is stating that the players have colluded against him and use "illegal" software.

According to the filing Crespo is accusing the six defendants –Andy "BkiCe" Seth, Faraz "The-Toilet" Jaka, Benjamin "Chong94″ LeFew, Mohsin "chicagocards1″ Charania, Ravi "govshark2″ Raghavan, and Tyler "puffinmypurp" Reiman– of "actively recruited other individuals to participate in illegal gambling activity… Having committed acts of collusion… Using real estate or property for the purposes of gambling".

The Poker Players Alliance is looking into the case and offering legal assistance to the defendants. Rich Muny, the state director for the PPA issued a statement that read, in part: "I have spoken with one of the defendants and we have discussed the issue at the highest levels within the PPA. It’s something we take very seriously."

Anyone knows anything about the UIGEA cracking down on the poker sites? I tried making a deposit, contacted Bodog and they stated their not accepting any credit card transactions due to UIGEA or whatever. Yah know any good sites i can look into this? Other payment options is out of the picture for, im a casual player......dont like providing banking info online, (even if i did, have to wait til it gets authorized and especially dont wanna get caught by the lady..............) Each year, when the inductees have been announced for the Poker Hall of Fame, it seems there is always some debate that surrounds the decisions. Last year every man and his dog voiced their opinions on the “disqualification” of online prodigy Tom “durrrr” Dwan for not fulfilling part of the entry requirements, which state a player must have stood the test of time.

This year two players were inducted, Dan Harrington and Erik Seidel and although you will struggle to find anyone in the poker world who would have a legitimate case to keep the two players out of the famous hall, one man think s that the rules should be altered for future years to stop certain players being nominated year in year out although they have no chance of being inducted.

Howard “The Professor” Lederer is an influential figure in poker today. Not only does he have two WSOP bracelets, two WPT titles and over $6,000,000 in live tournament winnings, he is also the CEO and one of the co-founders of a major online poker site. In a recent blog, he reacted the the induction of Harrington and Seidel by saying, when asked if the best players were inducted, “Objectively, I have to say no and I don’t think you’d get an argument from either Erik or Dan. Anyone who has even casually followed poker over the last ten years knows that the best and most accomplished poker player on this year’s list was Phil Ivey”

He went on to congratulate both Harrington and Seidel, two of his closest friends in poker, but said for future years the unofficial “Chip Reese Rule” should be made a real rule to avoid people having to question why the best players in the world are not being inducted. The late David “Chip” Reese became the youngest-ever Hall of Fame member back in 1991 when he was inducted at 40-years old. Reese was widely regarded as the best cash game player of all time, even up to his untimely death in December 2007. Rumours were rife that if Ivey had been inducted into this year’s hall, he would have declined his place as he did not want to break the legendary Reese’s record.

Tennis legend Boris Becker claims that he has had a positive balance since he began playing poker. The former World Number 1 pro tennis player from Germany, who claims six Grand Slam single championships and an Olympic gold medal among his accomplishments, went on record with a newspaper in Vienna about the sport.

"I won more money than I lost so far," he told the Austrian Independent today. However, the three-time Wimbledon champion was quick to add: "But I won’t talk figures. Poker players don’t do that. They are a bit superstitious."

Obviously, Becker has not visited any of the poker forums or websites dedicated to tracking players.

Becker, who quit professional tennis 11 years ago, is currently in Vienna to compete in the €500,000 European Poker Tour (EPT) at the Kursalon Hübner palace that started on Tuesday.

The 42-year-old revealed playing cards was a popular pastime during his active tennis career. The human factor is an important part of any sport and Becker says that he sees many similarities between poker and tennis. "Tennis and poker players need great mental strength – and you certainly need a strategy," he explained. Much like tennis, poker involves outthinking your opponent quickly and frequently needing to make adjustments to their individual playing style.

Even though the action has been quiet in the high-stakes online world for a second straight week, poker pro Gus Hansen has managed to win more than $1 million over the past seven days.

No pot on the virtual felt has reached six figures over the past week, yet Hansen has been able to amass one of his best upswings. The Danish superstar has been dominating $500-$1,000 cap pot-limit Omaha on Full Tilt Poker recently.

Hansen’s two primary victims have been Luukie21 and Di “Urindanger” Dang. Hansen took Dang for about $400,000 on Monday in a lengthy session.

The recent bracelet winner was at one point down more than $2 million on the year, but has turned things around nicely so far in October.

Dan “Jungleman12” Cates stepped away from his no-limit hold’em comfort zone on Monday. Cates and Jared “harrington25” Bleznick did battle at $100-$200 pot-limit Omaha on Full Tilt Poker. The two nosebleed regulars played about 400 hands together in a brief session, with Cates coming out on top about $130,000.

The fourth stop on the World Series of Poker Circuit hits Biloxi, Mississippi today, right on the heels of a stunning turnout at the stop in Hammond, Indiana. This is the first time the WSOP Circuit has hit the Gulf Coast and they're hitting the IP CasinoResort and Spa with an aggressive schedule: 33 events are going to take place from October 28 through November 10. The grand finale for this two-week event is a $1,600 no-limit hold’em main event, beginning November 7.

Players will receive WSOP Circuit leader board points according to their performances in the events, and the winner of the main event will receive an automatic entry into the $1 million WSOPC National Championship next May in Vegas.

Despite showing up at the final table as the clear chip leader, Daniel Negreanu failed to secure his Triple Crown victory at the this past weekend's World Poker Tour stop in Vienna, Austria. The player also known as Kid Poker busted out in fourth place. He helped short-stacker Martin Hruby double up when he the duo stared down each other while Hruby held A-10 versus Negreanu's A-Q. A ten on the turn of that hand knocked a significant chunk out of Negreanu's stack, but the real damage went down after a vicious three-way hand between Negreanu, Luca Cainelli and Martin Hruby.

Cainelli held rockets (As-Ad) and was called by both Negreanu (Kd-9d) and Hruby (6d-7c). With the flop falling Ks-8h-5h, Cainelli bet out 725k and was again called by both opponents but a 9s on the turn saw Cainelli move all-in followed by Negreanu, who was holding two pair and Hruby, who was bearing a made straight. A 5c on the river meant Cainelli was eliminated in 5th, earning €140,000 while leaving Negreanu desperately short on chips.

A few hands later, Negreanu shoved his remaining chips while holding Qs-8s only to have Hruby call him with Ac-4h. Hruby then his ace and boom! Negreanu exited the competition in 4th for €175,000 ($244,178).

However, losing gracefully hasn't been part of Negreanu's playbook of late and he managed to work in a few shots at his opponent over that last hand, accusing Hruby of slow-rolling as cameras rolled, ready to film the next outburst from the man who's giving Phil Hellmuth and Mike Matusow a run for ther money as the most obnoxious players in the game.

The eventual winner of the European Poker Tour's stop in Vienna was Michael Eiller, who got €700,000 for his considered play, making the 20-year-old one to watch in the future.

Alan Brant won the first event at the World Series of Poker Circuit stop at the IP Resort Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi. He earned a $19,585 payout and a much-coveted WSOPC Gold Ring for his victory in the $345 buy-in No Limit Texas Hold 'Em tournament. 288 players joined in the action at the event, bringing the prize pool up to a hefty $83,808.

Brant is a former nightclub manager who began playing online poker nine years ago. He's got multiple six-figure victories to his name in various online poker sites and while he considers himself primarily an online player, his live victory is worth celebrating. After accepting the ring, he told onlookers "I feel great. I’ve taken down a few online tournaments, but it’s really good to get this live one."

The Circuit Events at the IP Resort Hotel and Casino are scheduled to take place over thirteen days and are being held at the ultra-modern convention center that has helped make this one of the Gulf Coast's premiere destinations for trade shows and conferences. This time around, though, the 37,000 square foot venue has been completely transformed into a poker tournament haven.

Brad Pitt is attached to a new poker movie entitled Cogan's Trade, letting those of us who think there's a dearth of decent movies about the game that there's a chance that something watchable might be on the horizon soon. The movie is based on a crime novel by George V. Higgens, about a professional enforcer who tries to figure out exactly how a daring robbery was carried out at a high-stakes poker game run by the mafia.

Pitt's not the only notable name attached to the project. Andrew Dominik, who directed The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford (a movie this writer really enjoyed but understands that modern audiences don't have the patience for) is going to be helming this project and Sam Rockwell (the coolest guy in Hollywood, according to a survey held in my cubicle,) Casey Affleck (the lesser Affleck, but he's turning into something quite decent lately) and Javier "No Country For Old Men" Bardem are all attached in various roles.

Not to be out done by Brad Pitt, Antonio Esfandiari (aka "The Magician") is appearing in the big screen as well, alongside Bruce Willis and homophobic Twitter sensation (and occasional rapper) 50 Cent. Esfandiari revealed that he'd met with producers last week on Twitter and shooting should begin in five weeks.

Looking forward to seeing Cogan's Trade once it is produced and released.

Sounds like a good line up in the movie.

At least a half-million New Jersey residents already are playing poker online, say supporters of a bill that could make the state the first in the nation to explicitly legalize such betting by computer.

Under the bill sponsored by state Sen. Ray Lesniak, D-Union, poker, baccarat, and other classic casino games could be played by New Jerseyans while within the state's borders — with New Jersey collecting 20 percent of the annual gross gaming revenues or more than double what Atlantic City casinos take.

William Pascrell III, a lobbyist for the online poker bill, said the state is experiencing a "perfect storm" — an economic recession coupled with struggling horse racing and Atlantic City casino industries. All three issues, Pascrell said, could be addressed by allowing online casino gambling. A portion of the proceeds could go to the state Treasury, another portion could subsidize horse racing revenues and casinos also would benefit, he said.

A state Senate committee will meet Monday to review an online poker betting bill and a half-dozen other bills related to the horse racing and casino industries, with votes on most or all of the bills expected before the end of the year.

About 4,000 to 5,000 "immediate, direct jobs" would be created by legalizing online gaming, Pascrell estimated, adding that Costa Rica has added tens of thousands of jobs by being a pioneer in the industry.

Lesniak has suggested that New Jersey's 20 percent share of the annual gross gaming revenues could come to at least $50 million — more than enough to fully subsidize horse-racing purses at state racetracks.

"New Jersey could become a global mecca for Internet gaming," Pascrell said, adding that any regulatory and licensing issues could be addressed within six to nine months after such a bill became law.

Other examples

Pascrell pointed to New Jersey's effort to attract large Wall Street firms to build large data centers as a post-Sept. 11 security initiative in such towns as Totowa, North Bergen and Mahwah.

"Why can't New Jersey do that for online gaming?" Pascrell said in September at the third gaming summit sponsored by state Democratic Party leaders at Monmouth Park.

Governor Christie has declined to back Lesniak's efforts to overturn a 1992 law outlawing sports betting in 46 states. Jon F. Hanson, a top Christie adviser who submitted a report on the state's gambling and entertainment options in July, agrees with that position.

But, Hanson added, "Further legal analysis is needed to evaluate whether in-state Internet gaming, operating with a hub in Atlantic City, is feasible at this time."

Hanson said Thursday that he had not decided whether to support the online poker bill.

Casino owners have tended to oppose efforts to expand gambling beyond their "brick-and-mortar" sites, and the Casino Industry Association of New Jersey came out against the online poker bill when it got out of committee in Trenton in June.

The American Gaming Association recently has indicated a willingness to consider a compromise. Pascrell said it has become apparent to casino owners that the federal government will not take action to regulate it, so they are now more likely to work with New Jersey officials on a deal.

State Sen. Paul Sarlo, D-Wood-Ridge, thinks Atlantic City casino owners could accept a package of bills that includes online poker authorization if it also includes all of the regulatory overhauls sought by the industry.

"I'm very confident that the package we've put forward will pass, and that it will go to the governor's desk," Sarlo said.

State Sen. Michael Doherty, R-Warren, said diverting online poker revenues to horse racing smacks of "welfare, of the tracks being on the dole here."

"I'd rather they had slots at the racetracks, so they could compete in free enterprise against the tracks in New York and Pennsylvania that already have them," Doherty said. "I also wonder about the idea of some guy in his underwear online gambling at 3 o'clock in the morning. I don't think I want to support that."

The action at the World Series of Poker reached a fever pitch at the end of the first day of play, stunning everyone observing the game with both the swiftness and brutality that seemed to mark every major hand. The last hand was dealt at 1:49 in the morning on Sunday after 13 hours of play, leaving Jonathan Duhamel and John Racener as the final two players. Play will resume on Monday Night.

Here's how the rest of the table placed: Soi Nguyen was eliminated in ninth place, giving the California amateur $811.823 for his first major tournament cash. Eighth place went to Matthew Jarvis ($1,045,743,) who had one of the worst beats of the event after a series of dramatic chip lead changes. Jason Senti came in seventh, earning $1,356,720. John Dolan finished in sixth, running into a bad run of cards at the later stages of the final table. Despite the bad run, Dolan's $10,000 buy-in earned him over $1.7 million.

Fifth place belonged to the player that had the most eyes on him: Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi. He earned $2,332,992, something that'll certainly help out any lingering pieces of his recent fiscal troubles. Mizrachi was eliminated in the final hour, going from chip leader to the rail after losing each and every key hand he could have played on.

The first Italian player to make it to the final table, Filippo Candio, made his country proud by coming in fourth place, collecting $3,092,545. Joseph Cheong's third-place finish was particularly dramatic, considering that he had a massive chip lead at one point, but that will surely be assuaged by the $4,130,049 payout he received.

Surrey’s Matthew Jarvis won $1.05 million this weekend as he played his way to an eighth place finish at the World Series Of Poker in Las Vegas.

Jarvis came one card from doubling his stack.

Short on chips, he moved all-in with a pocket pair of nines. His opponent, Michael (The Grinder) Mizrachi, called with an ace and a queen.

Jarvis finished with a full-house (nines and queens), but an ace on the final card gave his opponent the better full house (queens and aces).

Two of poker's most decorated players Erik Seidel and Dan Harrington have been voted into the Poker Hall of Fame.

Dozens of luminaries, including Phil Ivey, John Juanda and Daniel Negreanu, were nominated for this year's honour but eight-time bracelet winner Seidel and former Main Event champ Harrington were crowned by their peers and leading journalists earlier this month.

“I’m very honored to be elected to the Poker Hall of Fame this year and it’s an extra bonus for me to be going in with Dan Harrington,” said Seidel. “We have played together and have been great friends for my entire poker career.”

While Seidel is most famous for his 1988 WSOP Main Event defeat at the hands of fellow Hall of Famer Johnny Chan, he is one of the best tournament players alive with eight pieces of WSOP gold and a WPT title to his name.

Action Dan’s two bracelets came during an unbelievable run in 1995, with wins in the Main Event and the $2,500 NLHE tournament three days earlier. He’s gone on to final table four times in the Main Event, including back-to-back visits in 2003 and 2004, and added a WPT title in 2007 for $1,635,365.

The pair join famous faces Phill Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson, Chip Reese and Amarillo Slim in poker’s grandest hall and show no signs of taking it easy, with Harrington going deep once again at this year’s Main Event and Seidel final tabling three times across the showpiece festival.
