The Poker Players Alliance has indicated to the Associated Press that the federal government has frozen accounts of payment processors responsible for paying winnings to online poker players.

Many online players have been complaining in the past week about not being able to deposit or withdraw money from their accounts at PokerStars, one of the more popular online poker sites.

The Poker Players Alliance has been battling the US government for years over Internet gambling laws and how they pertain to online poker. The group maintains that poker should be exempted from all online gambling laws.

(The game is skill, not luck, so therefore it is not illegal to play online).

The Payments System Protection Act (H.R. 6870) was approved by the House Committee on Financial Services and appears headed for a possible vote by the full House next week.

If H.R.6870 becomes law, it will be a boon to the estimated 23 million Americans who play poker over the Web.

Well.... I guess this might be showdown time. Yep... it's the river and we need a good card. It's time for ALL online poker players to step up and call this bluff! Let's ALL get in touch with our congress men and women and let them know how we feel about the game of poker. Poker IS a game of skill and not just another form of gambling. We need to express ourselves at this time in the history of online poker and make our views and concerns known. Yes, this may very well change online poker a great deal, but WE as online poker players have a great opportunity here to write the history books on online poker! We could just sit back on our backsides and let the chips fall where they may... or we can be the aggressor and take control of the pot and come out a winner! Let's take this flop we have been presented and show our lawmakers we indeed have the best hand! There are some 10,000,000 online poker players in this country! We can make a difference!

I see how the poker alliance and individual poker players focuses on saying that poker is a game of skill, but hey so what, lets say it's gambling. I want to have my freedom of choice to do whatever i want.

I have the age to decide what I want to do with my money, I want to play som god damn good poker or even play some blackjack or roulette at the online casino.

If there's a handful rather important issues along the road such as minors engaging in gambling etc etc.

They have to come up with a solution for those, but please do not slap me and everybody else with all negativism. Because that's how it turns out to hardworking americans.

All i can say is its a poor day in poker when the USA govt should intervien in a man enjoyment.. The head of the lobbying organization representing online poker players in the US says that actions taken by the US Department of Justice to freeze bank accounts holding the winnings of US players are not justified by statutes. John Pappas, the executive director of the Poker Players Alliance, says the seizure orders were committed without due process and will not hold up in court.

A hearing involving the seizure of $14 million in online poker players’ funds from payment processor Account Services will take place on Friday, August 21st at 1:30pm. The location: the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.

In a show of great customer service both PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker refunded the seized funds to players as well as imparting free bonuses into their accounts. :dirol

The debate is still on pretty much about this “Luck vs skill topic”. But apart from this it should be a matter of personal choice whether one wants to gamble or not, and government should not interfere in this.

Well, Barney Frank's proposed legislation makes no distinction between poker and any other form of online gambling. There is no "luck versus skill" debate with him. He lumps it all together as "online gambling". Others make the distinction, trying to educate the legislators and the voters that poker should be separate, as it is a skill game, but Barney isn't interested in that take, he just wants to license and regulate "online gambling sites"
