Polaris, the reigning world champion computer poker program, will challenge two of the sharpest poker players in the world, professionals Phil “The Unabomber” Laak and Ali Eslami. The two-day event will happen in conjunction with the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence’s annual conference, held this year on July 23 and 24 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Vancouver B.C.

This sounds interesting. Who do you think will win? The human experts or the computer? Man vs. machine. Hmm. I like the comparison the the Deep Blue chess computer.

I think this would be interesting to see. Are they going to televise this like the World Series of Poker?

They probably will televise it Hotwriter. Of course the idea of televising poker seems silly to me. I like playing poker, and I like fishing. However watching either on television is boring.

Two elite poker players have accomplished what many of the world’s grandmasters have failed at till now, defeating formidable computer opponents. Phil Laak and Ali Eslami took on Polaris, a software developed by researchers at the University of Alberta in Canada, in a set-up designed to reduce the role that luck normally plays in a game of poker.

Im never into playing a machine because you will never win really. Not on the computer anyway. I found that it is such a cheat mode.
