Too many hands?

What is the percentage of hands a person plays. I know that it depends on the number of people in a tournament, etc. So lets say you are playing on 9 person table.

You should probably be playing around 25% of your hands, more or less, but it depends on the table. If your opponents are playing loose, you may want to tighten up a bit, and if they are tight, loosen up a bit. As basically everything in poker goes-"it depends"

Maybe this depends on whether you're talking tournaments or cash games, but I've read advice -- from Mike Caro, IIRC -- somewhat the opposite about loose tables. You want to loosen up your range, but not as much as you perceive the rest of the table is. You should therefore you should still be playing more "better" hands than they are so should still be able to profit. . .

Wow.This is always a great question. It really depends on a lot of factors. But here is my take on it. Early in the tourney I will play fewer hands in early position unless they are really strong. The blinds are low and you'll be getting called every time and there is always some donk wanting to gamble early and go all in. Mid tourney, It will all depend on my stack size. If I have a small stack I will continue to be conservative but if I have a deep stack I will look at 30% to 50% of the flops. I can play much more aggressively. Late tourne y I will tighten up quite a bit as the blinds will be too high to venture in to too many pots. Here it is important to pick your spots.

Cash Table is a completely different matter as the blinds are less of a factor. Here you will need to take time to watch the table for a while and determine your oppenents style/strengths/ weaknesses. Then you can amble in when you are confident you know pretty much where they stand and how you can exploit them.

Tournaments
Short Stacked: All in or Fold
Med Stack: 18% to 28% of the hands.
Big Stacked: 35% to 70% of the hands.

Find your sweet spot and do what works for you.

If you have gone card dead for a while or are losing money, it's hard not to "go fishin" sometimes. You start entering pots with inferior hands and calling raises with hands you should be tossing away. Sometimes, you go on tilt and start playing even more questionable hands. I'm pretty sure it's happened to all of us at times. We may know better, but Poker ain't easy! :o

Some good answers. Depends on chip stack. Target for me is 25% after 100 hands.

Just played a tourney, first hand K K. I lost to Q 4. You are absolutely right Tallseas. He actually called my allin after flop with top pair with a 4 kicker.

Along these same lines, what are your thoughts on a sit+go tourney? I was thinking most of the time people can play themselves out of it so it wouldn't be a bad thing to be around 13-17%?
