N the 1989 American sports drama Field of Dreams, character Ray Kinsella, played by Kevin Costner, hears a whispering voice utter the words, "If you build it, he will come." Back in 2004, PokerStars built the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, and every year, people have been coming out to what is so commonly referred to as the greatest tournament series outside of the World Series of Poker.

Yet again, the PCA is the talk of the town as the calendar turns a page and puts 2010 in the books. With a new year upon us, everyone's slate is clean, and there will be no better place to get a fresh start to a successful 2011 then in the Bahamas on Atlantis Paradise Island. In just a few days, the 2011 PCA will kick off another poker spectacle in the making.

To kick things off with a bang, a $100,000 Super High Roller event begins on January 6 at noon. There's no question, this is the largest buy-in tournament the world has ever seen, and only the most elite competitors will be on hand. For those of you wondering who on earth has the confidence and cash to pony up a six-figure buy-in, PokerNews is here to give you an inside look at some of the entrants already confirmed for the event.

As previously mentioned in a recent PCA article, Team PokerStars Pros Daniel Negreanu, Humberto Brenes and Jason Mercier are all scheduled to play. Along with them, multiple WSOP gold-bracelet winner Bill Chen and 2010 Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge winner Dan Shak have been confirmed. That's old news, though, and just the tip of the iceberg.

Joining them will be a stout list of first-class, top-rate professionals. Recent first-time WSOP gold-bracelet winner and one of the best poker personalities around, Phil Laak is confirmed along with his best friend and two-time World Poker Tour champion Antonio Esfandiari. They aren’t the only good friends and champions who will be in the field. Both Eugene Katchalov and Nick Schulman have WPT titles and are confirmed. Schulman also holds one WSOP bracelet.

The list of confirmed entrants doesn’t stop there. Hoyt Corkins is another two-time WPT champion who is confirmed. He holds two WSOP bracelets and over $5.3 million in live-tournament winnings. Scott Seiver has a little less than half of those winnings to his name, one WSOP bracelet and numerous other accolades including a victory at the 2010 L.A. Poker Classic High Roller. He is another one of the confirmed names for the event.

Sorel Mizzi had himself one heck of a 2010. He won 2010 BLUFF Player of the Year and will be looking to keep his success rolling into 2011 right from the get go with this Super High Roller event. He racked up his best year on the felt with nearly $1.9 million in live-tournament winnings highlighted by a final table at the 2010 Aussie Millions Main Event for $660,000, a win at the Borgata’s East Coast Poker Championship for $170,000, a sixth-place finish at the EPT Grand Final High Roller for $190,000, and a runner-up finish at the WPT Rendez-Vous à Paris 2010 High Roller for $160,000.

Justin Smith had six WSOP cashes last year, came in runner-up for nearly $600,000 in the WPT Bellagio Cup VI, and won the WPT London High Roller for $220,000. He’s confirmed to play, as well.

A few other names can be found if you pull up the corresponding online tournament lobby for the event where players can buy in using money in their PokerStars account. As it stands now, nine names are listed in the lobby, meaning they have bought in via the PokerStars client for the big event. Some of those players are Team PokerStars Pro and 2008 PCA Main Event champion Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, North American Poker Tour Venetian champion and 2010 Card Player Player of the Year Tom “kingsofcards” Marchese, WSOP $25,000 Six-Handed runner-up Shawn “buck21” Buchanan, 2009 EPT London High Roller champion Matt Glantz, Andrew “good2cu” Robl, Ashton “theASHMAN103” Griffin, Vivek "psyduck101" Rajkumar and Bryn “BrynKenney” Kenney.

One may recognize those names as some of the top players in the world, but this large buy-in event has a few other players confirmed who may not be so well known to the common poker fan. Businessman Bill Perkins, founder and manager of Small Ventures USA, LP (SMV) is confirmed to play the event. He’s an amateur player who may be recognized for his appearances on the PokerStars-net Big Game where he tested his skills against the best in the world. Japanese businessman and common face to high-stakes poker events Masa Kagawa will be joining the field as will high-roller Bryan Colin.

If you don't fancy yourself firing off $100,000 for this event, there is a winner-take-all, single-table sit-n-go on the PokerStars client for $10,000 + $300 (ID: 345764324). It is a ten-handed satellite, and if it runs, the winner will surely be playing the most expensive tournament of his or her life.

Not only is the Super High Roller event starting to really heat up, the 2011 PCA Main Event has quite the massive list of players already. With still a few days to spare before action gets under way in the Main Event, there are well over 1,000 players registered. That itself is a remarkable feat not often attained by $10,000 buy-in events. Surely, hundreds more will be turning out to make it even bigger.

If you scroll the list of those names already signed up, almost every Team PokerStars Pro looks to be there including Theo Jorgensen, Vanessa Selbst, Liv Boeree, Dennis Phillips, Barry Greenstein, Chad Brown and David Williams. Along with them, Team PokerStars SportStars Boris Becker and Fatima Moreira de Melo are registered.

With well over 1,000 players already registered and the size of the event certain to soar past last year’s record-breaking field of 1,529 entrants, it’s not too late to get in on the action. If you happen to be on Atlantis Paradise Island during Day 1a of the Main Event, there will be a live super satellite taking place allowi

Played one of these Poker Stars Micro Mania 36 Man SnG's. Finished 5th for $1.35. I think these are a good value. If you win one... you get a share of the $20,000 prize pool for this promotion at PS.. which will likely turn out to be around $10. Sooo.. it's like their is $10 added to each one. You can, however, only win one share for the estimated $10, but a good value I would think for micro players. They also have 4 each night of $1.10 tourneys with $100 added! 2 NLHE, 1 NLHE 6 Max., and 1 PLO one. The 2 NLHE ones had 321 and 362 last time and the 6 Max NLHE one had 261, and the PLO one had only 162 players. With $100 added, these seem to be a very good value. They also have a deal where you can deposit a min. of $10 and get a free $1.10 ticket to one of these... so more added value there. They also have some good incentives for micro cash players as well. Here is a link to see more details! Good Luck! Low Stakes Poker Games - Small Stakes Poker - Low Limit MicroMania

Almost every tourney I enter is a money added tourney. Great way to stack the odds in your favor when payout time arrives.

Ever have the urge to get the old college home game back together, even though your gang has long since gone your separate ways? PokerStars’ latest innovation may be just be the solution. The online poker room is adding yet another innovation to their site by introducing PokerStars Home Games, an online service that allows users to create their own private clubs.

Users can customize their own tournaments and cash games ranging from penny poker all the way up to $1/$2 stakes. The new feature is already live and running on PokerStars-net with plans to launch on the real money PokerStars-com site later this week. The clubs can consist of up to fifty players and will be completely private, with players not showing up on the search feature while seated at Home Game tables.

Club Managers can create and customize the club and invite their friends to participate by providing a unique Club number as well as a password. The Home Games are not subject to the IP requirements elsewhere on PokerStars, allowing players in the same household to sit at the tables at the same time.

The Home Games software marks the first time PokerStars has incorporated social media sites like Twitter and Facebook directly into the client. Club managers are able to create tournaments and cash game tables and immediately notify their Facebook friends and Twitter followers about the changes.

In celebration of the new feature, PokerStars is throwing a video contest with a $10,000 prize. Players at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure (PCA) can submit a video explaining why their home game is the best around and the staff and players will select the winning video at the official PCA party on January 14th. The winning group will earn the right to take part in a $10,000 freeroll event on site at the resort.

While private tournaments have been a part of both PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker for quite some time, this marks the first time one of the major sites has made it possible for all their players to customize and create their own cash game tables.

Want to take your home game into the virtual realm? You can sign up for an account with PokerStars here.

Full Tilt Poker felt the pain when Swedish online poker star “isildur1” now revealed as Viktor Blom was signed away from the poker room by the PokerStars camp. Trying to fill that void may prove difficult for Full Tilt but they are attempting to add a new face or two to their team of great professional card players.
Canadian, Peter Jetten, a 25 year old high-stakes cash player has accepted the Full Tilt Poker package and will come to play for the Full Tilt team in coming sessions.
“I`m very excited to be with Full Tilt. I’ve always liked them. They are a very reputable site so I’m proud to represent them, I may even get a little more recognition because of it.” Jetten said during the press conference signing.
Jetten started his career as a professional poker player back in 2004 when he made two cashes in free roll tournaments for a combined $75. Moving on to the low stakes poker tournaments and the cash-games he ended up finishing the year with a profit of $100,000.
So far Jetten has made twenty live poker tournament cashes, and has reached the final table in six of them. His biggest cash to date was in the £20,000 High-Roller event of the 2008 European Poker Championships where he finished fourth with £189,000 in his pocket. The young Jetten has made $1,842,599 in live poker tournament winnings, and an additional $652,236 from online poker tournaments.

Peter Jetten’s screen name is ‘apathy123’ and he knows he has become a primarily a force in the online poker world, but he has been increasingly making his presence felt on the live tournament poker circuit. Jetten has already garnered respect from many players on the tour, young and old, and he recently recorded a high finish in the 2007 World Poker Tour Doyle Brunson Classic, where he finished in 18th place.

Home games have long been an important and popular form of poker, allowing friends to get together and play for small stakes in a fun, social atmosphere. PokerStars is now looking to bring that atmosphere to the online poker world with their PokerStars Home Games program.

The new service will allow PokerStars players to set up “Poker Clubs.” These clubs are private, with founders allowed to set an invitation code which friends can use to join in. The administrator of each club can then set up cash games and tournaments, as well as creating custom lobbies and tables for their players.

The clubs will allow players to play small scale events and keep internal standings, giving them a feel not unlike a typical home game or local poker league. In addition, there are several restrictions on the poker clubs that will prevent them from spiraling into large-scale operations. Each poker club can only have a maximum of 50 players. Individual players face restrictions, too; no player can create more than one club, and each player can only join up to three clubs in total.

However, club players will also be able to avoid some of the restrictions that face the PokerStars community at large. Players from the same IP addresses will be allowed to participate in the same clubs, and can even play at the same cash game tables. Owing to the small, private nature of these games, there will also be no chat moderation, and the games will not be monitored for collusion. According to a report by Bluff Magazine, users will be able to set up cash games with stakes ranging as high as $1/$2. Restrictions on tournament buy-ins are not known at this time.

At the moment, PokerStars home games are only available on the play money version of the PokerStars site. However, the .com version of the room is expected to have home game support by the end of the week.

In a move that has the potential to alter the nature of online tournament poker, Full Tilt Poker has announced the launch of Multi-Entry Tournaments, a new type of tournament that allows players to play more than one seat in a multi-table tournament (MTT).

The Multi-Entry Tournament allows players to enter the same tournament multiple times – either at the same time, or at any point before entries are cut off. Each entry from an individual player is seated at a different table, ensuring that a player won’t be able to play against themselves. Each Multi-Entry Tournament will have a maximum number of entries allowed per player, which will vary by event.

The tricky part is what occurs when there are fewer tables in play than entries remaining for a given player. This is a possibility in the late stages of a tournament; a player with two or three successful entries might be forced to have two entries at a single table. In these cases, a player’s entries will be merged. For instance, if a player has one entry at each of the final three tables, and one of those tables closes, that entry will be merged with the remaining entry with the lowest chip count. The chips held by both entries will be combined into a larger stack. In addition, if the money bubble has already broken, the player will receive the prize money that would have been given to a player who had been eliminated at the point where one of their entries was forced to merge.

Full Tilt Poker has often been at the cutting edge in adding new features for online poker play. Last year, they introduced Rush Poker, a format where players are immediately moved to new tables whenever they fold a hand, thus increasing the number of hands they can see during a session. Interestingly, Multi-Entry Tournaments are available for Rush Poker Tournaments, combining the two innovations into one event.

On Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, the PokerStars World Cup of Poker VII tag-team final table took place at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in the Bahamas. It was a jubilant scene as nine four-player teams competed for their respective country’s pride and glory. In the end, it was the Italian team of Davide Scafati, Litterio Pirrotta, Marco Mancini and Ravel Furfaro, led by Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano, who outlasted eight other teams at an 11-hour final table to take home the $100,000 first-place prize.

For those not familiar with the rules, the final table would be played with each player in action for 20 minutes before being replaced by a teammate. Team captains determined the order for their teams and if a player busts before all the team’s chips are in play, the next player is immediately put in. Also, teams were allowed two substitutions to use after the fifth level of play, as well as a single "time out." The nine competing teams had competed in preliminary rounds to build stacks for the final table, which ultimately looked like this:

1st ~ 50,000 chips - France
2nd ~ 45,000 chips - Philippines
T3rd ~ 41,000 chips - Ukraine
T3rd ~ 37,000 chips - Argentina
5th ~ 34,000 chips - Spain
6th ~ 31,000 chips - Italy
7th ~ 29,000 chips - Slovakia
8th ~ 27,000 chips - United Kingdom
9th ~ 25,000 chips - United States

Dublin, Ireland (January 29th) Erik Seidel continued his spectacular start to 2011 by winning the Aussie Millions AU$250K Super High Roller Event. Featuring a buy-in of AU$250,000 – the largest in history for a poker tournament – the recent Poker Hall of Fame inductee beat out a star-studded line-up, including fellow Team Full Tilt members Phil Ivey, John Juanda and Tom Dwan, to take down the first prize of AU$2.5 million (US$ 2.47 million).

Seidel’s biggest threat for the Super High Roller Event title came from the on-fire Sam Trickett – winner of the AU$100K Aussie Millions event earlier in the week. As heads-up play began, Trickett held over 80% of the five million chips on the table. However, Seidel fought back through a series of double ups and maintained the momentum after the chips stacks had evened out. The final hand saw Trickett check-raise all-in with As-Qh on a 3s-5h-9h flop. Seidel swiftly called with Jh-9c showing top pair, and two blanks followed giving the popular poker pro another prestigious title.

Seidel has been in great form since the turn of the year, winning over US$3.3 million in January alone. A fourth-place finish at the 2011 PCA High Roller Event – worth US$295K – was followed by a third-place finish in the AU$100K Aussie Millions tournament last week for a further US$618K. His latest AU$2.5 million (US$2.47 million) haul moves him up to third in the all-time career tournament money list, one place below Phil Ivey.

On Friday, the poker world learned that DoylesRoom, which had made its home on the Cake Poker Network for the last two years, would be jumping ship immediately to the Yatahay Poker Network. The latter features sites like BetCRIS and True Poker and is the 38th largest worldwide in terms of real money ring game traffic according to PokerScout-com with a seven-day running average of 73 cash game players.

DoylesRoom officials told Poker News Daily that the weekly DoylesRoom Bounty tournament, which had offered up to $50,000 in bounty prize money, would be converted into a guaranteed tournament. According to an e-mail sent to DoylesRoom players on Saturday morning, the site will now have $500,000 in guarantees every month along with 2D and 3D poker rooms.

The e-mail sent to players today also refers to a “$50K Guaranteed tournament starting in March,” which may be the newly launched Bounty. On the DoylesRoom website, the Bounty is listed as “Coming Back Soon.” Previously, three members of the site’s team of sponsored pros would vie against hungry DoylesRoom players every Wednesday night.

Anyone who knocked out one featured bounty would get $1,000. Players who knocked out two pros would receive $10,000, while any DoylesRoom user who busted all three bounties would nab $50,000. Whether the Bounty’s $27.50 buy-in will stay the same remains to be seen.

Starting on February 1st on DoylesRoom is a $65,000 Race to the Top. Text found on DoylesRoom’s website explains how players can battle in the Race: “To win, just Race to the Top of the DoylesRoom Leaderboard by playing at the real money cash tables and earning points. The more rake you generate, the more points you’ll collect and the higher you’ll jump on our Leaderboard.” The top prize is $7,500 and 350 players will finish in the money.

On PocketFives-com, comments about DoylesRoom’s new software seemed to be less-than-stellar. One poster wrote, “This new network blows so far. I don’t know if it’s just because Doyle’s is in its infancy there and nothing is running today, but so far every tournament has less than 10 people in it. Bit of a head-scratcher if you ask me.” Another poster opined, “Totally ridiculous. This new setup for Doyles Room is a joke!”

In addition, Poker News Daily has learned that the weekly Beat the Brunson 10 tournament will be retooled, although what that means is not clear. In other changes, a press release sent out by DoylesRoom on Friday noted that telephone and live chat support would be returning. When Poker News Daily attempted to access DoylesRoom’s online customer service on Saturday afternoon, we were connected with an agent in less than a minute.

According to PokerScout-com, the Cake Poker Network’s average cash game player count dipped sharply on Friday, the day DoylesRoom switched networks. On Thursday, the 24-hour peak ring game player count on the Cake Poker Network was 1,356; on Friday, the same 24-hour peak was just 961, a drop of 29%. Week over week, the number of cash game players was down 25%. Day by day traffic numbers for the Yatahay Poker Network were not available on PokerScout-com.

Both the Cake Poker Network and Yatahay Poker Network accept players from the United States.

Greg Raymer, the 2004 World Series of Poker main event champion, is no longer a PokerStars pro.

There’s been no “official” word from either Raymer or the online poker site. However, Raymer’s picture no long appears on PokerStars’ website on the “PokerStars pro” section.

As part of the online poker site's efforts to be the leader in women’s poker, it is launching the new 2011 season of the Women’s Poker League Feb. 7.
