It has been announced that the online poker room Doyles Room, founded in 2004 by poker legend Doyle Brunson, has now been sold to Americas CardRoom (ACR) for an undisclosed sum.
?We?re very excited with the acquisition of DoylesRoom and the resulting expansion of the Americas CardRoom brand. DoylesRoom?s new software that?s proving to be a player favorite coupled with their recent success in serving US players made the company attractive for a takeover,? commented an ACR representative on the acquisition.
America?s Card Room itself was launched back in 2001, and was regarded as one of the premier poker card rooms at the time. However, the site decided to leave the market in 2006 after the UIGEA was passed only to reappear last month with its doors now open to US players.
Americas CardRoom re-emerged on the Yatahay Network, where Doyles Room is already located, and is believed to be in the process of acquiring skins to fast-track itself to becoming a household name in the online poker market.
Doyle?s players will now find themselves transitioned to their new home this week, and with both sites located on the Yatahay Network, there will be minimal disruption for Doyles Room players who will keep their user names and login details. It is also believed that the DoylesRoom brand name will then cease to exist and as an ACR representative explained:
?Players and affiliates can rest assured that their balances are safe and secure and Americas CardRoom will honor all of the existing DoylesRoom agreements. With more liquidity being injected into the operation of the business, players can expect to see bigger guarantees, better promotions, and greater incentives for being a part of the Americas CardRoom community.?
Yahatay is one of the safest networks still offering sign-up and deposits for US based players, and one of the few catering to US players along with Cake Poker, Everleaf Gaming and Bodog. Merge Gaming Network still continues to operates in the US but doesn?t allow new sign ups.
Barney Frank, who is one of the most outspoken supporters of changes to the UIGEA and other archaic gambling laws in the United States spoke about recent information regarding the DOJ’s accusations that Full Tilt Poker worked as a Ponzi scheme and fleeced hundreds of millions of dollars from its players. “I was very disappointed to hear of the allegations,” he said.
“But it doesn’t change my views,” he said. “If anything, it strengthens it.”
Frank found himself in hot water recently after a Boston newspaper revealed that Full Tilt Poker had made an $18,000 contribution to the politician’s campaign in the past. It also named other representatives as having received contributions. Some of Frank’s critics have blasted him for cooperating with criminals and accepting contributions from online gambling groups that were not technically legal in the United States.
“Frank should refund every nickel of the tens of thousands in campaign donations linked to online gambling,” said Tim Buckley, speaking for the Massachusetts GOP.
Barney Frank promised to return all the money that he received from Chris Ferguson, Rafael Furst and Howard Lederer if the three were convicted for fraud. Frank said that he would donate the money to a fund for Full Tilt Poker victims should one be set up, or – if not – to charity.
