Just saw one these yesterday. I don't play on fulltilt much so I didn't know if these were new or been around for awhile. Apparently, you can cash out in the middle of the tournament with some or even all of your chips. Half the buyin goes towards the cashouts, other half to tournament pot. Chips are worth so much cash, you can cashout in 10%increments of buyin (I think). I never found out, since my QQ got busted on the river by K 10 (K on river). Has anyone played these, what do you think?

I haven't played any of them, but I like the idea that if you can accumulate enough chips to cash out some and still have enough to be competitive, you might be able to turn a buy-in into a freeroll at some point during a tournament. . .

Unfortunately, as you noted, the prize pool portion of the buy-in is split between the casher's pool and the cash-out pool, so there's potentially less money for the tournament'a ITM players than there would be in a non-cashout tournament. [If no one cashes out at any time during play, then it's no different.]

I'd also be curious to hear if anyone's tried these and what their experiences have been and what their thoughts are on them. . .[/FONT]

Yea the format is different from other tournaments in the way one can have the option of cashing out or not.It's pretty cool actually.I have enjoyed the ones I've played in.

These are great. I have played a number of them. Your chips are worth 50% of your original buy-in. Once you have accumulated enough you can cash out for part or all if you like. I usually will only cash out for my original buy-in. Then it is truly a freeroll from there. The remaining cashed out pool is split up once you get to the final table according to stack size.

Despite the large role that luck can play in tournament poker from one hand to another numerous tournament pros have proven that skills is a long-term factor in the game. Tournaments are really tests of two separate skill sets: skill at the game of poker and skill at adapting to changing circumstances. Whether they're in the biggest tourneys in the world or in $5 and $10 tourneys at a small online card room the players who have studied the game and practiced often have an edge over players whose approaches might win in a cash games but don't hold up in the facing of escalating blinds.

What is the tournament names called for these kinds of tournaments that allow you to cash in some of your chips during the tournament? I would be fun sometimes to sell back 8,000 chips during a tourney. But usually one needs every chip they can accumulate to do well in a tourney. Sounds like a sort of pre-arranged chop option.
