Have to admit that the first 4 registered look like someone trying to multiaccount -- which means either he's going to go all in on the first hands hoping to double up and/or chip dump between his accounts -- and I don't readily recognize the 5th name either.

But I know that the admins said that 9 accounts were recently upgraded. Looks like one or more of them was a bad apple. . .

Now maybe people will understand why no upgrades are done automatically based on post count around here. . .

First, the disclaimer. . .I am not a admin or a mod for this forum, just someone who's been around long enough to know the deal, so to speak, and save them the trouble of having to constantly repeat themselves. Nothing I say is binding upon them in any way. . .

Now, you are barely over the minimum number of posts that would be required -- although I haven't really looked to see if they are what would be considered quality, meaningful contributions. I don't have the kind of time at the moment needed to look at everything that's posted in the forum. That takes care of the "how many" part. . .

You now need to understand that just because you have reached a certain number of postings there was no special bit or switch in your forum profile that says "open sesame" to the password section of the forum. The upgrade to your account for that to happen is handled manually by the admins & mods -- their names are ixgames and Manne; no doubt you've seen them around, often. . .

They will want to see you contributing on a consistent basis from week to week before they will upgrade you. This is to prevent people from coming in, making the x number of posts, getting their access and then never being heard from again. That's not what this forum is about. They certainly provide enough topics and articles and news for just about everybody to find something to contribute to a discussion about, so most people don't find it a problem maintaining even a minimal participation -- a few meaningful postings a week. And if you don't like theirs, feel free to start one of your own. There's a lot of people here willing to listen and learn and help their fellow members. . .

That last part requires a modicum of patience. Upgrade does not happen the week you hit the magic number. It may not happen the week after that, or the week after that. You will have to keep contributing and have faith that it will result at some point, hopefully not too long from now, relatively speaking, in the upgrade you seek. . .

I hope that helps you and clears up some of the confusion about why some people are in and other aren't. As for these multi-accounters, well, if it's found out who they are, they may find themselves beyond downgraded. They may find themselves banned from the forum altogether. . .

G'luck in your quest and looking forward to your contributions and to someday playing with you at one of the games. . . Welcome:

Yup, sadly, the system has somehow become compromised. The question is whether it has happened from inside the forum or from the outside. . .

Good question. Wish I had an answer. More likely than not it would probably be one of the recent upgraded accounts, but an absolute answer would likely come -- if one is found at all -- after a good amount of detective work by the admins and mods. . .

Well, yes, if it can be figured out who it is then they should definitely be shown the door. . .permanently. And reported to Carbon so their accounts can be closed and funds seized. . .

From what i have experienced in the past, it's hard to have two or more accounts open at the same time because of the IP Address. Because PDC and Carbon are the same company with a different skin, you have to have permission to run both on one IP Address. But something is weird with that name.

I know, for a fact, that you cannot have two Cake network clients open at the same time on the same PC. When you try to open the second one, it will check to see if another one is running already. Would not be surprised if the same thing were true for Carbon and PDC. . .

It seems odd to me that this person hasn't been caught by Carbon or PDC poker by now. They can tell the IP address of someone when they log in. If three or four accounts log in from the same IP shouldn't the at least freeze them to verify different owners?

Could be he uses one of those IP address hiding services.

There is one possibility that I am not sure I have read here. The same person could easily be using different PC's in order to accomplish this. Each puter could be used at the same time and the IP addresses would not be the same. Poker site owners could do a more in depth check by cross checking actual physical addresses, but these could easily be faked. Yes... someone could actually own that many computers and be playing all of them at the same time. Why do it at a freeroll you might be thinking? Well.... freerolls are the least likely place to be detected.. at least I would think so... plus they could be doing it.. trying it out for a different venture later. I'm not sure why the same person would use so similar nick names... seems kinda obvious to me ...lol! If he gets caught, which he should, probably might claim that all are different family members! LOL!

One thing is for sure... if it is this easy to do stuff like this and not be detected.... makes me feel like I am justified in not getting into ring games online for much money. Could you imagine being in a game where the same guy has 4 or 5 puters all with different accounts at the same table you are playing ring? Or.... the same situation, but , say.... 4 or 5 players with laptops all sitting in a dorm or other multi-dwelling building where they can all see each others cards? Or, another deal where 4 or more players are sitting at a ring table and you are there...and they are all in communication with each other on yahoo.. or aim? Think about that one before you jump in a public accessible ring game for very much money at all! Just food for thought on the risk of playing online poker!:warning

Yes, dats, that possibility has been pointed out to me before. Could be used to multi-account from the same room or multi-account from different skins in network-wide games.

To my mind, there's not enough money in most freerolls for such multi-account cheating to be worth the effort. It would take winning or at least chasing a fair number of $25 or $50 freerolls to amount to a decent amount of money. [Larger freerolls are another story, but those are usually locked down pretty tight anyway.] Of course, some cheaters will take whatever they can. . .

As for collusion, that doesn't need physical proximity in order to take place anymore, just a number of people on a conference call or a chat room or other shared communication means sharing hand details with each other. Harder to collude in tournaments as seats are randomly assigned -- provided you still have faith in RNG and seating algorithms -- so that sort of collusion could only really happen if all the cheaters make it to the final few tables. . .

The ring games are another matter altogether, at any stakes. Players should be aware of the actions and the players taking those actions and look for any suspicious patterns. . .

Me and my wife each have an account on carbon and we tried to play one of the reg. freerolls there together. I logged into our desktop and she tried to login to the laptop. It wouldn't let her log in, so I think they would have to use a different Internet provider, the laptop used same modem, or hide IP addresses somehow. I'm not much of a computer person though, but that was my experience.
