Really can't agree with you... at least the FullTilt tournaments pay out in tangible value. Not that I play the FullTilt tournaments you're talking about. The Carbon freeroll is only paying out in tickets, least they could do is pay 5% of the field. There are forums out there just like this giving away money in free rolls and paying out a fair percentage of the players. The best ones I've found are on the Cake network and on Full Tilt.
The point is... when you look at it by percentage, the $250 freeroll you're bashing... pays out only slightly less players by percentage (1.6% for the twitter freeroll vs 1% for the US Freeroll on FTP)... but at least it's cash value you can use however you like. The number of players rarely should be a concern, since in freerolls you'll be dealing with extremely soft players if they even bother to show up.
If a tournament isn't paying 5% of the players, I don't bother with it, no matter what situation my bankroll is in. It's just not worth the time you have to invest compared to the odds of winning a prize.
You're much better off trying to turn play chips into money, which you can do on Carbon through the Fun Steps SNGs.Might want to check your calculator, how do you get 1.6% from 600 players 40 places being paid?
