Chopping

Ive heard the term but was wondering is there some strategy to this as far as the outcome? live or online ?

Chopping online is simple at some sites and not so simple at others.

Just a simple way of evening out variance and balancing your winnings.

Not sure why you would want to chop unless you were a dog. Or couldn't handle the swing if you lost. But if you can't handle to losing swing then you are probabloy playing too high. Exception: large MTTs where you want to settle on a good win and take away the noise in a close match. Especially if you are tired. Good luck mate!

I like chopping because it saves a lot of time. Sometimes those final tables go on and on and on. By chopping, you win your prize in a way that's fair to everyone, you save a couple of hours, and you're on your merry way. 😁

There is a particular home tourney I play around here. I have chopped twice and won outright in the last 3 months ( it is a monthly tourney). The reasons I chopped were:

1. The blinds were high and the stacks even. It became a gamble and we both earned a good amount.

2. There was a cash game going that I could get into and earn even more. I actually quadrupled my buy in in the cash game.

3. My opponent (didn't realize) he was on a heater. I noticed it. Everything was going his way and I didn't have time to wait it out, so I offered a chop and he accepted because it was getting late and he had to be leaving anyway (whew lol).

I don't chop very often, but in these cases I knew I would win a few hundred for a few hours of work. And, making even more in the cash game was a draw for me as well. I like this tourney because I have a good chance of winning every month. I don't think I am the best player there but out of the last 24 tourneys I have won about 11 i think. I don't think anyone else actually studies or even pays attention to forums like this. I may not get to always post but I always try to at least learn one thing a day to help me. I hope this helps give insight into, at least, why I have chopped in a small (25 person) tourney instead of going for solo first place. Any other advice is welcome.

Well i finally had the option of chopping for the first time online.have to addmit it can be profitable as well as quick.i was short stack and looking at a 3rd place finish for 8.00 when they asked if i wanted to chop.i agreed quickly and came away with 20.00 instead of 8.00.
