Launch of daily satellites means poker players could yet earn their seats at the Sky Poker Tour Grand Final in September. Sky Poker have launched three daily satellites, giving top poker players from across the country the chance to earn their seats at this year's Sky Poker Tour Grand Finals, without needing to buy-in directly.
After what seems like months of tense competition, the 2011/12 Sky Poker Tour will sadly be coming to end on September 8th and 9th at Nottingham's Dusk Till Dawn Casino. Of course for such a prestigious event players should expect the tour to finish with a bang, and Sky Poker have certainly delivered on that front. They've already guaranteed poker players a massive GBP75,000 prize pool for the final, as well as scheduling to broadcast select games live via the Sky Poker TV channel.

The third official day of play of the 2012 World Series of Poker Main Event has rearranged all the survivors gunning for the $8.5 million top prize into just a single room in the sprawling Convention Center at the Rio Hotel and Casino.

About ten hours of play on Thursday left 720 standing out of the 6,598-player starting field. The money bubble will burst at 666, leaving some empty handed on Friday the 13th. Leading the way is former online pro Dave D’Alesandro, who with 1.1. million has about four times chip average.

Sitting with 814,000 going into day 4 on Friday is two-time bracelet winner Vanessa Selbst. The aggressive 28-year-old pro lived up to her reputation on Thursday.

Out of the 282 players remaining in the 2012 Main Event, three men each have a shot at making a once-in-a-lifetime experience redundant. Eric Buchman, Joseph Cheong and Sam Holden, who each outlasted massive fields in 2009, 2010 and 2011 respectively to make final tables, are still alive after Friday’s fourth day of play.

Jamie Robbins has been here before and he knows what it will take to make the World Series of Poker main event final table. Now he just has to actually do it.

The 38-year-old former online pro from San Diego finished 11th in 2009, securing $896,730, the biggest payday of his career. But the day was bittersweet, knowing he came so close to becoming a member of the November Nine.

“I was card dead that entire last day and then when I finally picked up a hand with 14 players left, I had my aces cracked all in preflop against James Aikenhead,” said Robbins. “I remember Antonio Esfandiari was telling the table that getting that deep was a once in a lifetime opportunity. In the back of my mind, I knew that wasn’t true. I knew I’d be back.”

While the 2012 World Series of Poker is winding down in Las Vegas, the high-stakes online poker games are going strong. Last week we told you about “ChaoRen160’s” big win of $225,777, as well as “PimpyLimpy” becoming the biggest loser after dropping $152,950.

This week, the action was a bit scarce, but when it happened there was plenty of excitement. As it turned out, Sander “Berndsen12” Berndsen had the best week of anyone, winning $352,808 in 7,661 hands spread across 106 sessions, while “EireAbu” was close behind, extending his yearly winnings by $303,827 in 7,084 hands spread across 89 sessions.

Despite a first-place prize of $8.5 million looming in October, it didn’t take a long day 7 for the final 27 players to become just nine. Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, the final table was set in the World Series of Poker main event — a tournament that is as prestigious as it is dramatic.

Most of the finalists may have existed in obscurity just a week ago, but they are now on the verge of becoming poker-household names by outlasting 6,589 players in the $10,000 buy-in.

Leading the way with 43.875 million is 26-year-old Las Vegas pro Jesse Sylvia. His chip stack is dominating, but he’ll have to work hard to fend off 2010 L.A. Poker Classic champion Andras Koroknai (29.375 million), online cash game pro and 2012 bracelet winner Greg Merson (28.725 million), 2010 bracelet winner Steve Gee (16.86 million) and live cash game pros Robert Salaburu (15.155 million) and Jeremy Ausmus (9.805 million).

The amateurs at the table include actuary Russell Thomas (24.8 million), commodity broker Michael Esposito (16.26 million) and Arizona State senior Jake Balsiger (13.115 million).

Get ready, online grinders. PokerStars has unveiled the preliminary schedule for the 2012 World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP).

The richest online poker tournament series in the world is set to run from Sept. 2 through 23, offering 61 events including a $5,200 buy-in Main Event with a $5 million guaranteed prize pool. The festivities begin on Sept. 2 at 11:00 EDT with a $215 no-limit hold'em event. There will also be a $10,300 buy-in High-Roller event later that day.

Last year, PokerStars handed out more than $47 million across 62 events, crushing the $30 million in guarantees being offered. The biggest winner of the series was Denmark's Thomas "Kallllle" Pedersen, who earned more than $1.2 million for winning the $5,200 Main Event. In doing so, Pedersen joined an elite group that includes Tyson "POTTERPOKER" Marks, Yevgeniy "Jovial Gent" Timoshenko and Carter "ckingusc" King as WCOOP Main Event champions.

This year's Main Event will award at least $1 million to the champion. PokerStars will be slapping guarantees on every event, but the final details are still being worked out at PokerStars headquarters.

Here's a look at the working 2012 WCOOP schedule (all times EDT):

A poker ace and former Canterbury student has scooped $128,000 in the world’s biggest tournament – a year after pocketing almost $800,000 at the same event.

University of Kent graduate Sam Holden, 23, won the impressive sum – equal to £83,000 - after finishing 55th in the World Series of Poker’s main event in Las Vegas.

He was among 6,600 players battling it out for the $8.5 million winner’s prize, but his luck ran out on Sunday night when his pair of eights was trumped by three fives.

It was the young poker star’s second big win in Vegas, following an appearance at last year’s final table, when he walked away with a cheque for $782,115 – about £500,000.

At both tournaments he was the last British player standing, but he says this year’s event was a whole new experience.

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has reached its final stage, and this year WSOP women have created history by lasting longer in the tournaments despite their smaller number. The first WSOP woman to win a large cash prize was Patricia Baker, an employee at the Rio. She finished second in the Casino Employees Event and won a share of $43,754 of the total prize pool of $329,400.

Vanessa Selbst, the last female poker player to win the WSOP bracelet in 2008, came close to winning it once again in the second event, a $1,500 NL Hold’em tournament, but was defeated. Instead, she finished fourth and won a prize of $161,345.

As usual, the tournament poker world has entered its post-World Series of Poker slumber, allowing the players to recharge their batteries after the seven week grind in Las Vegas this summer. That will be changing soon, however, as several tournament circuits will get their new seasons underway in the month of August.

The World Poker Tour will kick back into action with its first Season XI tournament at the very start of the month. The WPT Merit Cyprus Classic will run from August 4-9 at the Merit Crystal Cove Hotel and Casino with a $4000 buy in tournament that features a reentry option for those players who bust out on the first day. Although the tournament will not be televised, it is expected that many professionals will step up for the tournament due to its exotic locale.

The WPT will also be making its first stop in the United States soon after the conclusion of the Cyprus event. The inaugural WPT Parx Open Poker Classic will run from August 10-15 at the Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, featuring an official WPT stop with a $3500 buy in tournament and will be a featured broadcast on the 2012 WPT television schedule. There has been a good deal of buzz on this tournament over social media and it may be a very good stop for the “grinder” pros and amateurs in the Pennsylvania area.

Wrapping up the month of August, the WPT will make its annual pilgrimage to the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles for the 2012 Legends of Poker. From August 24-29, the $3700 tournament will be contested and the final table will be a part of the 2012 WPT television season. The Legends always draws well, with its proximity to Las Vegas and the wealth of tournament pros in the California area, so look for a strong field coming to sunny Los Angeles for this tournament.

The World Series of Poker 2012 (WSOP) are completed. The result of players during the various tournaments held as part of this event brought enormous changes in the ranking Card Poker Player of the Year. But other major tournaments were also held on the sidelines of the WSOP and they had an influence on the list. In this context, we must mention the Venetian Deepstack Extravaganza III, a poker event having 55 tournaments and the Bellagio Cup VII of $ 10,000. Winner of the Deepstack Extravaganza Main Event of $ 5,000 buy-in, Tim West won 1,200 points. He is therefore currently in the 94 th place. Shannon Shorr who finished fourth in the tournament also improved her ranking. She is now in the 17 th place.

PokerStars-com has announced details of its World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) 2012. The schedule sees a 22-day online festival of poker beginning Sunday, Sept. 2 and wrapping up Sunday, Sept. 23.

The highlight of the 62 events is the $5,200 main event. The ultimate tournament in the series guarantees a minimum of $1,000,000 for whoever is the last player standing.

Last year the WCOOP main event attracted 1,627 players, creating a total prize pool of $8,135,000. Dane Thomas “Kallllle” Pedersen received $1,260,018.50 for first place.

The 2011 WCOOP made a show of many of its guarantees, tallying up a whopping $47.1 million in prize money. The guarantees for this year’s onslaught of events are currently being nailed down and with still time for adjustments, PokerStars is open to suggestion.
