John Higgins' career could effectively be over after the reigning world champion was recorded allegedly offering to throw frames in future events in exchange for €300,000 (£259,000).

You can read an overall preview of this week’s PGA Tour stop, The Players Championship, in another post, but let’s focus this one just on how Tiger Woods fares this week at TPC Sawgrass. Bodog’s golf odds has a few Tiger-specific props you can wager on (as well as other players).

First off, it’s notable that Woods is not the overall favorite to win this week – he is at 8/1, just behind Phil Mickelson’s 7/1. But as usual Woods is the story this week because he is coming off his worst round ever in the U.S., a second-round 79 at the Quail Hollow Championship. Of course Woods missed the cut in Charlotte, only his sixth missed cut ever as a pro.

But because of that missed cut, be very wary of betting against Tiger this week. It seems an MC truly gets Tiger’s focus even sharper because in his previous four appearances following a missed cut, dating back to 2005, Woods has finished third or better each time. His last missed cut was the 2009 British Open, and Tiger then won the next two times he played after that (Buick Open and WGC-Bridgestone in consecutive weeks). Tiger was even more impressive following his previous missed cut to last year’s British, that coming at the 2006 U.S. Open. OK, Woods didn’t then win his next event as he finished tied for second at the Western Open. But then Tiger won his next eight tournaments (one unofficial event) on the PGA Tour, which extended into his first start of 2007. We will never see a streak like that again.

Bodog lists Tiger as -650 to make the cut at The Players Championship and +400 to miss it. Woods has ever missed consecutive cuts but hasn’t been great at this tournament. Since winning The Players in 2001, Tiger has finished in the Top 10 just once at Sawgrass – an eighth-place finish in 2009. Bodog lists Woods as -130 to finish in the Top 10 this week and Even to finish outside it.

I think it's going to be a while before he gets another win. My feeling is that he won't win again this year. Too many loose ends and too much going on for him to really concentrate on golf. Plus, I think his mental game, which is always his strongest point, needs some time to get back to 100%. :what:

BodogBrand has submitted an offer of $100M over five years to sponsor pro golfer Tiger Woods, only this time around it includes a 'no moral judgement' clause. This is BodogBrand's third offer, actually.

The first offer was submitted in January to Tiger's agent, Mark Steinberg, and a second offer was made a couple of months later. What makes this third offer unique is BodogBrand's commitment to back Woods in his quest to reach for the top "without judgement."

With divorce an increasingly likely outcome and speculation about a multitude of other ‘sins’, BodogBrand feel they are the only ones who can extend a deal that will be totally unaffected by any non-golf related activity but in fact actively encourages endorsees, employees and customers alike to 'Play Hard.'

The deal: Whatever it takes. BodogBrand is happy to sponsor and help Tiger get back to his best by any means necessary. According to The Independent in the UK, they like the sound of this offer. What do you think?

Finally, the Aussies had their day in Monaco Grand Prix Results. Mark Webber, driving for Red Bull, won the big race on Sunday. He became the first Australian to win the Monaco Grand Prix since Jack Braham did it in 1959.

Just 0.4 seconds behind Webber was his Red Bull teammate, Sebastian Vettel. The race was littered with crashes and controversy. Defending champion Jenson Button retired on lap three with a smoking engine. Webber's victory catapulted him over Button atop the Formula One standings.

Formula One bettors weren't surprised by the result; Webber and Vettel were the top two sportsbook favorites entering the race.

Michael Schumacher, continuing his comeback attempt at age 41, had his sixth-place finish stripped for illegally overtaking Fernando Alonso on the last corner of the race. His team, Mercedes, has appealed the decision – which didn't come until two and a half hours after the race had ended.

The Minnesota Vikings may be football’s biggest boom/bust bet among the odds to win the 2011 Super Bowl. With the Williams Wall and Jared Allen on defense, not to mention Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin on offense, the Vikings may be the NFL’s most talent-rich franchise right now.

But everything could change if the straw stirring the drink, Brett Favre, retires. He finally gave the team a passing attack that kept opposing defenses honest and he turned Sidney Rice into a star. In fact, Favre set career highs last season in quarterback rating and completion percentage while also setting a career low in interceptions.

If Favre departs, the Vikings’ uncertainty at quarterback will send their odds (14 to 1) plummeting. If he’d made a decision early enough, Minnesota could’ve made a play for Donovan McNabb. Now, the Vikes will have to rely on Sage Rosenfels or Tarvaris Jackson should Favre hang up his cleats.

Back in the heyday of boxing, it wasn’t that uncommon for fighters to face off four times against each other (or more). Shoot, Sugar Ray Robinson and Jake LaMotta fought six times. The most recent occurrence of two fighters battling four times was Azumah Nelson and Jesse James Leija, who squared off that often from 1993-96.....

This week’s Byron Nelson Championship PGA Tour stop outside of Dallas didn’t figure to get much attention with a field that didn’t include a single player ranked in the Top 15 in the world. But now many eyes will be on Sunday’s final round because of 16-year-old Jordan Spieth.

Not only did Spieth become the sixth-youngest player ever to make the cut at a PGA Tournament, but he’s in contention. After opening with rounds of 68 and 69, Spieth shot a 3-under 67 on Saturday to enter the final round in a tie for seventh and six shots behind leader Jason Day. You can bet on who will win the tournament with Bodog’s golf odds, which have been revised just for Round 2. Day, an Aussie, is the big favorite at 10/11 (he leads Blake Adams by two), while Spieth is part of the field at 3/1. You can also bet on Spieth as a part of 3 Ball against playing partner Corey Pavin today. Spieth is +180, while Pavin, the 1995 U.S. Open champ, is at -180.

Spieth, a high school junior, has won this tournament before: the University of Texas commitment is a two-time winner of the Byron Nelson Junior Championship. He also is the U.S. Junior Amateur champion. Obviously as an amateur he can’t cash whatever check he earns. Tournament organizers came up with a cool idea for the final round, as they will let anyone under 16 in for free to root on Spieth.

By the way, the youngest player to make a PGA Tour cut is Bob Panasik, who was 15 years, eight months old when he did so at the 1957 Canadian Open. Spieth will also play in the PGA Tour’s St. Jude Classic in Memphis next month.

After a few weeks of pretty weak fields on the PGA Tour, this week’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, the final stop of the Texas Swing, has a very strong field led by world No. 2 Phil Mickelson. Bet on the Colonial with Bodog’s golf odds.

If Mickelson’s wins this week he will take over the top spot for the first time in his Hall of Fame career – he also could have grabbed No. 1 by winning at the Players a few weeks back but wasn’t really a factor. And Lefty could well get a victory this week (he is the 7/1 favorite on Bodog’s golf odds), as he won here in 2000 and 2008. He couldn’t defend his title last year as he cared for cancer-stricken wife Amy.

The Masters champion is one of five Top-10 players in the world playing this week (Tiger Woods is not – he’ll be back at the Memorial next week). No. 4 Steve Stricker (25/1) is the defending champion of the Colonial and returns to action after not playing since the Masters due to a shoulder injury. He's still feeling some tightness in his shoulder but not the pain that forced him to withdraw from a few tournaments. One would think he would be rusty and not a huge factor.

Tim Clark (20/1) lost on the second playoff hole to Stricker last year but enters off his first PGA Tour victory, coming at The Players Championship. Clark probably should have won at Colonial last year – he also finished second in 2008 – but bogeyed the 72nd hole while leading by a shot. Clark is first on the PGA Tour in fairways hit and second in putting, meaning he should contend every week.

If you are looking for a longer-shot bet consider Kenny Perry at 40/1 on Bodog's golf odds. He won at Colonial in 2003 and 2005 and was in contention at the Byron Nelson last week before a final-round 73. He still managed a T16, his second-best finish of the season.

Legalising sports betting in Malaysia will generate over 900 million dollars a year for government coffers, the magnate leading the controversial project said in remarks published Sunday.

The government in May granted a sports betting licence to Ascot Sports, a company controlled by influential tycoon Vincent Tan, in a bid to boost tax revenue, but the move has run into stiff opposition.

Bangkok police say they arrested more than two dozen people suspected of betting on the opening match in the World Cup soccer tournament.

Police Maj. Gen. Piya Uthayo, spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said the roundup during the contest between South Africa and Mexico yielded small-time bookmakers caught with betting tickets worth 30,000 baht ($924.50), the Bangkok Post reported Sunday.

Five people were arrested Friday night at a food shop on charges of gambling.

Meanwhile seven people, mostly teenagers, were arrested on charges of stealing motorcycles and motorcycle parts.

Police Lt. Col Pananchai Chuenjaitham said the suspects admitted they wanted the money for betting on the World Cup, the Post reported.

JOHANNESBURG - The Soccer World Cup was set to become the biggest-ever betting event in the United Kingdom where bookmakers were predicting online gambling to help turnover surged beyond US$1.5 billion, according to international media reports.
The reports said British punters were expected to bet around £1bn, breaking all records, with the growth of online gambling seeing many more people becoming punters. ?And British gamblers were breaking with tradition to back other teams and not just England their usual favourite. A spokesperson for bookmakers Paddy Power, Darren Haines, told journalists that gamblers were placing bets on a whole variety of teams, matches and outcomes
"It's huge, really surging this week and soccer fans are going into a World Cup frenzy,” said Haines. ? “We anticipate more than £1bn being gambled industry-wide, and the further England go in the tournament, it's more likely that this figure will be comfortably surpassed. It will be the biggest betting event in British history, without a doubt."? Another betting shop chain, William Hill, also predicted a US$1 billion World Cup turnover for the industry in the UK thanks to online gambling.
A William Hill official said: "This is the World Cup in which internet betting has really come into its own." The official added that online betting could work to the advantage of bookmakers because of the very wide variety of punters with different views on possible outcomes that are able to place bets online.
He said: "We have online clients in 188 countries who are betting on the World Cup, which dilutes the impact of everyone betting on England. If England reach the final and lose on penalties to New Zealand, that would be perfect for us."?? Other factors for the predicted record betting beside the growth of online gambling include the scheduling of matches, which will see games televised from South Africa at evening peak times.
